OT: finding a designer (bit of a rant)
...ss/accessibility but who are clearly
developers and not designers. To say their sites look bland is an
understatement
3 design firms who offer everything I want, at a price I can never afford
2 designers who say they have all the relevant experience but don''t have a
portfolio
1 nigerian scammer
so what''s a developer with the creative ability of a 3 year old to do? I
can''t justify paying hundreds to advertise on a dedicated jobs board (the
project is non-profit)

Caller ID Names
Are the phones exposed to the internet (even using NAT)? If so there is a good chance these calls are not coming through your PBX but are coming in direct from someone, usually scammers.
Polycom has a config option to disable accepting calls from unknown devices. No idea if Cisco has something similar.

Spam in Bugzilla
Hi!
There is surge of spam bug reports with support phone numbers of
various companies. I remember couple of such reports made ~ 2-3 weeks
ago.
I think will be good idea to block IP-addresses or their range, if
Bugzilla support this, since a-mails are different.

Boonex Dolphin PHP script is SCAM! Beware!
...thing else. I am contacting the authorities in their country as well as their hosts city here in the U.S. with a complaint. Had they at least responded, I wouldn't feel so upset about it. but to not even respond it just fraudulent and unprofessional. Boonex is a scam. Andrew Sivtsov (Boon) is a scammer. Try googling boonex scam.

The problem with this is a lot of spammers use false return addresses or
impersonate real addresses. In these two cases the solution you suggest
doesn't work. Granted, the "419" scammers usually have a proper return
address so that they can get a response. What you should do in these
cases (if you want to do something) is simultaneously report them to the
FBI and to their ISP/email provider (eg. Hotmail), at which time their
account will be summarily terminated, and if you're...

OFF TOPIC: chatGPT glibly produces a lot of wrong answers?
**OFF TOPIC** but perhaps of interest to some on this list. I apologize in

Caller ID Names
Hi,
In my dialplan I have the following line.
same => n,Set(CALLERID(name)=Support)
I am expecting this to always set the caller id name to 'Support' - however, we are getting calls come in as "Anonymous" with the number as something like "unknown at unknown"
We're using Cisco 7945 phones - I possibly wonder if they are displaying this rather than asterisk

African IP addresses list
Hi all,
I am trying to block all IP addresses from Africa due to a high rate
of fraudulent orders coming from them.
I have some found some websites that can generate a range of IP
addresses. However, you would have to enter the ranges by country. I
can use those perhaps but that would mean I would have to get the
ranges for each country one by one.
Has anyone here a list of addresses from

What do I need to connect landline calls without telephony hardware?
For some reason, I have been unable to find the answer to this online or in books...
I want to have a "click-to-connect" feature on my website where the user enters their phone number and then my asterisk server calls their phone and my phone and connects the two calls to each other.
All I have are:
1. A Server
2. A DSL connection
3. A Router and DSL Modem
4. A static IP

How to deal with PayPal frauds?
I charge my customers through PayPal, but recently faced a fraud which
previously had only heard about. Somebody registered a few accounts, paid
online with paypal (as my service is only prepaid) and started making
expensive long distance calls. In fact the IP registering the accounts was
from Florida, and IPs making calls were from Africa. After about 20 minutes
the first payment was reversed.

Privacy rights of an old user of this list
Dear subscribers of r-help,
I would like to know your opinion about a privacy problem that I recently had after publishing to this list. Not a long time ago, I requested to the administrators of this list that they removed 2 or 3 old posts from mine. These posts were associating my name with an old company for which I worked a few years ago when you would look up my real name at google. I'm
