Opening files issue.
Hi all.
I've looked, and I do recall a posting from earlier addressing this, but I
can't get the right combo of key-words to google up the solution. If I open
a file (say a .doc) from windows explorer, the program launches and that
file loads quickly. If I use the open dialogue from the application, the
file loads slowly. Looking in performnce monitor I see that if I load the
file from

CUPs and Samba and XP
Hullo All.
The preamble.... Samba 2.2.7a compiled against CUPS, CUPs v 1.1.6 (version
that came with Mandrake 9.0), using client side drivers (raw printing) on
XP.
Printing works, cancelling jobs via the web interface works after the
spooling is done. What doesn't work. Pausing jobs (though that's not as
important as the next trouble) and cancelling jobs from XP. If I cancel a
job by

cleanup_recycle.pl problem (maybe OT)
Hi all
This maybe slightly OT, but I just noticed an interesting difficulty with
the cleanup_recycle.pl script that comes with 2.2.7a. I run it on a cron
job every night, deletes files and directories after 3 days. The trouble I
have is that some of my directory are named with spaces in them ie "Base
Maps" rather than a more proper "Base_Maps" The script really doesn't

winbind problem
Dear all,
I'm trying to make winbindd working without much success.
I would like to set my linux box as a samba PDC and as winbindd host with
some win2k workstations.
I'm using mdk 8.1 and have installed the corresponding rpms (samba-2.2.2-6
by cooker).
I followed howto and samba doc to set the pdc and it works.
Following winbindd doc I have to used "smbpasswd -L -j IUTINFO -U

PDC Trouble
Running 2.2.7a as a Samba PDC. My root account seems to have been killed
off. I can't join computers to domains, I can't add users, I can't login
with a 2000 box as root. If I try and login as root I get "The system
cannot find message text for message number 0x%1 inthe message file for %2"
. It's possible that I really pooched it. I migrated our PDC to samba from

An addendum to my PDC troubles.
OK, I lied a bit about not being able to add users. I can do that just
fine, if I remember to set the UID above 1000. I still cannot add a computer
or log in as root with a client machine. I can change password just fine
from WIN2000/XP for all users, including root. I get the error message "The
system cannot find message text for message number 0x%1 inthe message file
for %2" only if

Samba 3.0 Alpha
Does net rpc join work in SAMBA (using HEAD from CVS compiled this morning)
Configured with ACL, with PAM, and with WINBIND.
It seems that I cannot rejoin my domain (PDC is NT4sp6a) after I turfed
machine.sid and secrets.tdb. I tried using smbpasswd first and was informed
to use net join rpc instead.
Logs available if needed.
Thanx
Hans

Connection dropping every 24 hours from Windows Client.
Hello
I have a problem with my Windows 10 drive connections dropping every 24
hours, very briefly. It's enough to cause me to be unable to save my file,
or access a geodatabase. I have followed much trouble shooting and I
believe that its due to the KDC Service ticket lifetime expiring, I have it
set for 24 hours in smb.conf.
I have a Samba 4.9 DC and an Ubuntu 18.04 member file

Connection dropping every 24 hours from Windows Client.
I changed my SMB.conf on the DC's and the member as per your instructions. Now the connection dropped at 10 hours, which appears to be the default end time of the certificate.
