Hi all,
Anyone has experience using * through
128 kbs (or bigger) satelite link?
In particular I am interested to hear how many calls could be put
through 128Kbs satelite link simultaneously?

we are linked to 2 isp--one having satelite & the other OFC. We want the
above mentioned network to go thru OFC(ispB) as the sibling resides
there. But when i use squidclient mgr:server_list command i see that rtt

OFC takes 230ms.

some questions: client for ultralinux and streaming
...the streaming-possibilities of vorbis?
- (As I am a network admin) what are the possibilities of UDP-streaming
(if possible via multicasting).
- What are the possibilities to use vorbis for'low bandwidth, low
quality' streams (like news-radions) or over 'high-latency'
paths. (e.g. satelite-links).
As vorbis is patent-free, it would be interesting to see if it could be
use to streaming radio-stations from '3th world countries' (is this term
still polically correct? ;-)), but these countries usually run over
satelite-links and/or use lower-bandwiths.
- As there already exist...

Don't these extra roundtrips further increase the latency of ssh
connection setup (e.g. imagine a high-bandwidth&&high-latency satelite
link) ? ssh is already a *PAIN* in that area, killing it's usefullness
for applications like "Distributed make" because the time to setup the
connection can be much longer than the command executed on the remote
side.

(newby) IAX Trunk on low bandwidth connection
...n deliver a broadband
connection for anything less then an arm and a leg, so we're considering
runing an * <-> * connection using VoIP over a low bandwidth connection
(we're considering 128kbit but we might be able to go to 256kbit).
The bandwidth price is not a problem for our "satelite" installations, we
cand get acceptably priced broadband (~256kbit) so the distant *'s will have
propper connections.
My question:
Is 128kbit a wide enough connection for 1 simultaneous conversation, using
IAX protocol with the comercial version of the g729 codec?
I'm expecting this...

WiFi IP Phones
Guys.
I know there are wifi sip phones out there but I have a question, are any of
these phones "anti explosive"? By that I mean, there are certain regulations
about phones or cel phones that are not recommended to operate in
environments like gas stations due to sparks and the chance of ingiting gas
fumes.
Are there any wifi sip phones out here that have complaince with regulations

Satellite ocean color palette?
Dear List,
Is there a color palette avaliable similar to what is used in satellite ocean color imagery? I.e. a gradient with blue on one end and red on the other, with yellow in the middle? I have tried topo.colors(n) but that comes out more yellow on the end. I am looking for something similar to what is found on the CoastWatch web page:

Desired Install in MotorHome
..."I want to be able to
work from a mountaintop in Glacier National Park"
I've done some initial testing, and a SNOM200 SIP phone comes close
enough to working that I have not ruled out the idea as completely
un-workable.
I understand that this is an extreamly hostile environment, the
satelite uplink itself introduces too much latency for a standard
configuration to work (1500ms) which is most likely where the problems
come from.
What I'm wondering is if anyone has ever succeded in making a setup
like this work. Different protocol (H.323 MCGP etc) or different
codecs?

Moving from DSL to T1
I work in a small office and have fallen into the role of network support based on knowing enough about networking to be dangerous.
Our office is moving from DSL to a T1. Were using Asterisk as our PBX and I'm looking for hints or resources that might help me make the transition as error free as possible.
Are there well known gotchas that I shoud be aware of?
Thanks in advance,
Richard

VoIP over satellite internet
Could those on the list who have used or tried to use VoIP over a
satellite internet connection comment on how well it works or if it
even works at all in a reliable way. What is the effect of latency on
the VoIP path and how much is generally tolerable? routing via
satellite adds about a quarter second of latency to the path. Is that
too much?

using samba through a VPN
I already have an existing network that is managed by a samba PDC. In the next
few days, I will be linking another small LAN to the existing one over the
internet using openvpn. I've been told that samba (through no fault of its own)
doesn't work very well through a VPN.
For the new network, there will be a box with 2 NICs: one for the internet and
one for the LAN. This box will use

Problesm with an application
Hi all,
I just start to experience problems ussing Wine with an application
(called Past) that was not experienced before. I am using Wine 0.98 in a
Kubuntu Breezy instalation (upadted, with KDE 3.5.1) in a notebook Toshiba
Satelite 1715, with 196 Mb RAM.
The site for the program (freeware) is: http://folk.uio.no/ohammer/past/
All the other several programs (even one that does not run properly with
0.97) runs fine, but Past gave the following message after execute "wine

Which hardware configuration? How would this work?
...out of date and may pack-it-in any
day now.
- Existing PBX system (AltiReach running on NT4) but we plan on replacing
this server entirely and ditching the old PCI cards but keeping the hand
sets (approximately 30 Nortel hand sets).
- We have 12 regular phone lines coming into this system
- We have satelite offices that could be VOIP after the system is
implemented.
What is the best hardware configuration for this? Should we get a T1? Which
cards/hardware should we use? We are currently unclear on how the hand sets
connect to the system but moderately clear on how the phone lines would
connect to the...

Tripp Lite OMNIVS1000 USB driver
There is a branch (Tripp_Lite_Omni) in CVS for the Tripp Lite OMNI USB
driver that I have been working on. I think it covers both the
OMNIVS1000 and the OMNIVS1500XL, but I do not have one of the latter
units to test.
If you have one of these, and want to do some testing, please check
out the branch and let me know if you run across any problems. I also

Setting up com1 in wine.
...manager, andit's just not there.
and I usually use that as a point of reference to use when I'm trying to cd into a directory to do any file changes.
I'muxing Xubuntu 8.04 and I have wine 1.0 I'm trying to use this program called COOLSAT loader 7000 to load up some files to a F2A satelite box...and I need to find out a way to get wine to tell this program it has serial ports. (Another file loader recognizes my inbuilt serial port perfectly)
Can you please tell me how to do this in simpler terms and without so many assumptions about what I know?
