Supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 and 1TB Seagate Barracuda ES.2
Hi all, I''m getting a very strange problem with a recent OpenSolaris b134 install. System is: Supermicro X5DP8-G2 BIOS 1.6a 2x Supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 1.0b 11 Seagate Barracuda 1TB ES.2 ST31000340NS drives If I have any of the 11 1TB Seagate drives plugged into the controller, the AOC-SAT2-MV8 BIOS appears to detect them just fine, but I get the following problems: 1. Grub takes a long time to findroot 2. Once Grub finally finds the OS...

SMART problems with AOC-SAT2-MV8 / marvell88sx driver
...g to get either smartctl or sg3_utils to report properly. They both have the same low-level problems which leads me to suspect either I''m doing something wrong OR there is a problem in the marvell88sx / sd / SATA etc framework. I can access drive name/serial number of all drives on the SAT2 card and the temperature is returned from the IE log page on my two drives that support temperature. (The SATA disks on the motherboard that are attached to the cmdk driver work, but SMART fails because they are treated as ATA drives so ignore those) What appears broken is I cannot access...

Force SATA1 on AOC-SAT2-MV8
I have a supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 and am having some issues getting drives to work. From what I can tell, my cables are to long to use with SATA2. I got some drives to work by jumpering them down to sata1, but other drives I can''t jumper without opening the case and voiding the drive warranty. Does anyone know if there...

Looking for some hardware answers, maybe someone on this list could help
I posted a thread here... http://forums.opensolaris.com/thread.jspa?threadID=596 I am trying to finish building a system and I kind of need to pick working NIC and onboard SATA chipsets (video is not a big deal - I can get a silent PCIe card for that, I already know one which works great) I need 8 onboard SATA. I would prefer Intel CPU. At least one gigabit port. That''s about it. I

Best hardware
Hi all, I am currently planning a new home file server on a gigabit network that will be utilizing ZFS (on SXDE). The files will be shared via samba as I have a mixed OS environment. The controller card I will be using is the SuperMicro SAT2-MV8 133MHz PCI-X card. I have two options for CPUs/motherboards: AMD Athlon64 3000+ (64 bit) DFI LanParty UT 250gb (NForce 3 based) motherboard 32 bit PCI slots only 2GB RAM or Dual Intel Xeon 1.6GHz CPUs (32 bit) ASUS PCH-DL motherboard PCI-X slots @ 66MHz 2GB RAM I am trying to figure out wh...

dynamic menus in dialplan
I have an application that needs to vary the menu choices available based upon the availability of an external resource at a given time. What I have in mind is a system that can uplink a user to one of many different satellites. Due to the nature of orbital mechanics a satellite may be out of range at any given time. I only want to present a menu of available satellites. I can query an

Fully supported 12-port SATA cards?
...server for his company and I have advocated for Solaris and ZFS. But now we are having trouble to find any good SATA controller for 12+ disks, there are Areca cards, but they seems very flaky (24 port support, but hangs with more than 12 in JBOD mode, hangs on disk failures etc). The AOC-SAT2-MV8,AOC-USAS-L8i have been mentioned, but it had problems with device numbering and/or as I understood it no support for hot plugging. Isn''t there any supported PCI.* SATA card with at least 12 ports that do work and have a real driver supporting hot plugging/cfgadm- operations?...

what is the best way to hook up my drives
...planning on building an opensolaris server to replace my NAS. My case has room for 20 hotswap sata drives and 1 or 2 internal drives. I was planning on going with 5 raidz vdevs each with 4 drives, and maybe a hot spare inside the case in one of the extra slots. I am going to use 2 Supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 cards (pci-x 133 each with 8 sata ports) The motherboard is going to be either Supermicro mbd-c2sbx or Supermicro mbd-x7sbe both have 6 onboard sata ports. So, I''ve got a couple things i could do...If possible i''d like to avoid buying another raidcard UNLESS i can find one...

ZFS, SATA, LSI and stability
After having massive problems with a supermicro X7DBE box using AOC-SAT2-MV8 Marvell controllers and opensolaris snv79 (same as described here: http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-66-233341-1) we just start over using new hardware and opensolaris 2008.05 upgraded to snv94. We used again a supermicro X7DBE but now with two LSI SAS3081E SAS controllers....

Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8
Bouncing a thread from the device drivers list: http://opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=357176 Does anybody know if OpenSolaris will support this new Supermicro card, based on the Marvell 88SE6480 chipset? It''s a true PCI Express 8 port JBOD SAS/SATA controller with pricing apparently around $125. If it works with OpenSolaris it sounds pretty much perfect. --------------

Offtopic: Which SAS / SATA HBA do you recommend?
Hi all, Sorry for the offtopic question. I hope though that others on this list or reading the archive find the answers useful too. It seems the Adaptec 1405 4port SAS HBA I bought only works with RHEL and SuSE through a closed source driver, and thus is quite useless :-( I was stupid enought to think "Works with RHEL and SuSE" meant "Certified for RHEL and SuSE, but driver in

Supermicro SAS/SATA controllers?
The standard controller that has been recommended in the past is the AOC-SAT2-MV8 - an 8 port with a marvel chipset. There have been several mentions of LSI based controllers on the mailing lists and I''m wondering about them. One obvious difference is that the Marvel contoller is PCI-X and the LSI controllers are PCI-E. Supermicro have several LSI controllers. A...

ZFS - Implementation Successes and Failures
Hi Firstly apologies for the spam if you got this email via multiple aliases. I''m trying to document a number of common scenarios where ZFS is used as part of the solution such as email server, $homeserver, RDBMS and so forth but taken from real implementations where things worked and equally importantly threw up things that needed to be avoided (even if that was the whole of ZFS!).
