Tendonitis and R users
Hello This request asks something beyond the technicalities of the R language, I would like to ask you wonderful people if you have ever suffered as programmers ( or de facto programmers like myself though I am a 'research assistant') from tendonitis and how you coped with it, i have golfer's elbow on both sides. Any resources? Pancho Mulongeni Namibia

vis.gam() contour plots
Greetings, I have what I hope is a simple question. I would like to change my contour interval on the vis.gam( plot.type="contour") in the mgcv package. Is this a situation where I need to modify the function or is there a default value I can change? Thanks

FAQ, Documentation, How-to, etc
...lish a list of such names on this list and only consume a half-inch of email space (even with Outlook Express in bold print, heaven forbid). And, their first names do not start with Mark either (Everyone, please note Mark's political absence from this somewhat "hot" topic; excellent posture.) The majority of recent postings to the list are, without a doubt, coming from folks that have just recently found an app they believe in and would like to try it. But the arrogant _few_ (about 3, if someone's counting) consistently discourage these same people with "did you search the a...

rails vs. nodejs
I am going to make an opinionated comment here. This is just my opinion and everyone has one. I think rails is the best framework out there. But I think all these frameworks do not solve any actual problems. They just abstract problems to simpler forms. On the other hand nodejs actually created a new and revolutionary way to develop web applications easily. Almost like writing a simple script.

Plotting observed vs. Predicted values, change of symbols
Dear Wiz[R]ds, I am deeply grateful for the help from Duncan Murdoch, Gray Calhoun, and others. We are almost there. For whatever reason, I can't change the symbol from a circle to a triangle in the upright posture plots. Any ideas? I have included the problem in full. # tritiated (3H)-Norepinephrine(NE) disappearance from plasma # concentrations supine and upright # supine datasu <- data.frame( time=c(0,1,2,4,6,8,10,15,20), concsu=c(385.61,265.88,173.87,99.47,66.7,55.27,48.29,39.85,40.66) ) # upright dat...

Plotting observed vs. fitted values
Dear Wiza[R]ds, I am very grateful to Duncan Murdoch for his assistance with this problem. His help was invaluable. However, the problem has become a little more complicated for me. Now, in each plot, I need to plot the observed and fitted values of a supine and upright posture experiment. Here is what I have and how far I got. # tritiated (3H)-Norepinephrine(NE) disappearance from plasma # concentrations supine and upright # supine datasu <- data.frame( time=c(0,1,2,4,6,8,10,15,20), concsu=c(385.61,265.88,173.87,99.47,66.7,55.27,48.29,39.85,40.66) ) # upright dataup...

PCI delegation works, access to the delegated NIC doesn''t
Hi all, has anyone seen such a behaviour?: I delegated successfully my NIC to a domU, but access to it from domU is not possible. Device appears, but access to it via ''ifconfig ethX up'' doesn''t work. Ends up in dmesg output like: tg3: tg3_reset_hw timed out for eth1, firmware will not restart magic=00000000 Delegating my USB controllers e.g. works flawlessly. Full

Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (fractal pkg) troubleshooting
I'm working with the DFA (detrended fluctuation analysis) function in the package fractal on postural sway data, and for the life of me can't get the results to turn out as they should given what my data looks like. The data resemble a random walk, but the Hurst exponent estimates that I'm getting at ~0.9 instead of ~1.4, which is the value a researcher I've been working with

Newest WINE No Longer Runs
...e a Dell Laptop running Fedora 7. I bought this from "Emperor Linux" who configured the machine and shipped it to me ready-to-go. I had successfully installed a few minor Windows applications and had them running under WINE. Since I began using Linux a few years ago, I have adopted the posture of doing periodic updates with yum. Awhile ago, one such yum update installed WINE 0.9.54 and everything stopped working then. By now I am up to WINE 0.9.56, but no WINE application runs. Can someone help me troubleshoot this and see if I can figure out what went wrong? When I try to open anyth...
