Problems with Planescape: Torment
Hello, I've been having some problems with Planescape and I can't seem to be able to solve them (I'm neither a Linux nor a Wine wiz, if you know what I mean). Before I state my problem, I have to say I have used 3 Wine releases, the 03/2005 one, that couldn't even start Planescape (I got it as a binary .deb file), the 05/2005 one (Compile...

Planescape Torment,
Has anyone managed to get Planescape Torment in Wine yet? I've tried it in wine 1.1.36, 37, 38, 39 and 40. None work. My system just freezes and I can't manage to alt-tab to my terminal either. The forums (and the appdb) seem to indicate that this game is pretty tough to get up and running. I've tried both the fullscreen=...

Radeon 4800 or Ati in general viable for wine?
...eplace my old nvidia card with a newer model and seeing as Ati is open sourcing their drivers. I was wondering if I should get a 4800 card, but only if the fglrx or x86-radeon driver is up to the task :) Like can it run direct3d 9 games like Eve? How about 2d performance in games like fallout 2 and planescape torment?

Problems with newest Wine versions (.16, .17)
Hello, To get straight into the subject at hand, it seems that the two latest wine versions (.16, .17) have broken some of my applications (Planescape and Carmageddon, in particular). These applications used to work perfectly in .15, so I'm led to think that the problems are due to the extensive changes done in the Direct3D area. The output seems to confirm these thoughts. Now, I'm not sure what *is* the problem, so I'm not going to s...

AppDB permissions problem
I'm maintaining the GTA3 and Planescape: Torment entries in the AppDB. I just tried to edit the howtos I added a while back but I'm being told I don't have 'sufficient permissions' to do that. I am logged in by the way. Grahame

Switching to 16-bit colour depth (from 24) - is it possible?
Hello. I'm having a bit of trouble running some old games, like Planescape Torment (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=22660&iTestingId=61130) (the GOG.com version). When I try to start the game, it complains about the desktop bit depth (I have 24 as default, and it requires 16-bit). The game suggests I should either run it in fullscree...

Wine sometime really surprise me
...out "it is not necessary" true. After years of using WINE to Play "PC" Games on Linux. I find that. A lot of very nice 3D games, even not so well known title would run great under WINE. But some OLDER well known title. especially for those from Black Isle Studios, like fallout, Planescape: torment, and etc.... Wouldn't work so well. Giving the fact, they are develop by the same company, it might be something there. But these games do deserve a good attention. Giving the fact, that they are known as one of the greatest game ever made. I do understand, how well it things run is...

wine + games: Deux + Baldur 1 and 2
Hi all ! First, my apologies if this subject has already been discussed but the archives lack a "search" feature, so I've browsed a bit but not a lot before 2001. I browsed the winehq and I found some people have been able to use wine on Deux Ex, and Baldur 1 and 2. I installed the games with windows (they worked fine) and then tried running them with wine under linux (debian

System directory L"%SystemRoot%\\system" is not accessible
...; Doesn't work if I cd to the directory first, either. Not good. I went back into the registry and changed a couple of cases to match the actual case of the path (C:\ to c:\ and System to system), but that didn't matter. Other things seem to have gone south as well; I just tried to run Planescape: Torment, which had been running just fine, and it wanted me to put CD 2 in the D:\ drive (CD-ROM)... which would be normal, except for the fact that I copied all four disks' contents to the game directory and redirected the CD locations in the game's .ini file to the game folder on th...

Black (transparent?) Screen - wine 1.3.34
Hi, I'm having some issues with multiple games running under Wine, namely the GoG versions of Age of Wonder and Baldur's Gate. Both of these are listed on WineHQ as compatible, but I'm not having the same luck. If Compiz is running when I start the game, I get a black screen, but the game itself is obviously working, as the game music is playing and I can hear menu buttons pressed

Newbie: Running an application within wine (installed fine)
I had successfully installed BrilliantPhoto with wine, so that I have the directory: file:/home/dotancohen/.wine/c/Program Files/Brilliant Labs/BrilliantPhoto but when I run the command wine /home/dotancohen/.wine/c/Program\ Files/Brilliant\ Labs/BrilliantPhoto/BrilliantPhoto.exe it justs sits there with no output until I ctrl-Z it. Silly me, I even tried to click the icon in Konqueror to start

Is there a difference ...?
Doh123, how is running a program off an NTFS partition asking for trouble? Ntfsprogs seems to handle it just fine. I know that NTFS doesn't let you mark a file as executable, and that the filesystem is susceptible to fragmentation, but you should just be able to tell it to run rather than display and be good. It shouldn't cause destruction. I think there might even be an NTFS defrag tool
