Well there is a problem in here somewhere.
...assword thing resolved but it re-apperared. Then
dis-appeared just as mysteriously as it re-appeared.
So last thing was it was working after a slight hic-up.
Today I am trying it again, and it doesn't work - again. Like before, it
is asking for a password.
I have also been told that the PeeCee called "586" is not a good idea. As
that gets interpreted as an IP number. So the machine is now called
"PC586".
Alas, even so, when I try to connect to it from the Amiga, I get the same
error - as I said in my earlier post. :-/
So really I am stuck at square ONE.
I though...

Samba server visibility
...network. Samba's working fine, I can
get to the server by using it's IP, but resolving the name is a no-go.
Prior to rebuilding the machine, I didn't have to put the IP in, it
simply worked when I typed the server name in.
I've combed our DNS servers, I've checked the PeeCees, nothing tells
me that there's a pointer anywhere that resolves the (Samba) server
name. So, what am I missing here?

SPARC SATA, please.
...correctly yet? Need it for a super cheapie, low expectations, SunBlade 100 filer, so I think it has to be notched for 5v PCI slot, iirc. I''m OK with slow -- main goals here are power saving (sleep all 4 disks) and 1TB+ space. Oh, and I hate to be an old head, but I don''t want a peecee. They still scare me :) Thinking root pool on 16GB ssd, perhaps, so the thing can spin down the main pool and idle *really* cheaply..
thx

Faulted Pool Question
I just got a call from another of our admins, as I am the resident ZFS
expert, and they have opened a support case with Oracle, but I figured
I''d ask here as well, as this forum often provides better, faster
answers :-)
We have a server (M4000) with 6 FC attached SE-3511 disk arrays
(some behind a 6920 DSP engine). There are many LUNs, all about 500 GB
and mirrored via ZFS. The LUNs

Hello,
Recently we changed the IP address of our Solaris server and our NT

of the concept of "incremental update"? ht://Dig, from what I've seen

resilver = defrag?
A) Resilver = Defrag. True/false?
B) If I buy larger drives and resilver, does defrag happen?
C) Does zfs send zfs receive mean it will defrag?

Raw print queues in CentOS 4.4
Hi All,
I have a raw print queue configured in CentOS 4.4 for a printer
connected to a Windows PC. The printer doesn't have a Linux driver of
any sort, so this was the only way to print to it.
The printer is an Okidata dot matrix printer. Users can print to it
from a console application, but if they try printing to it from OOo
Writer, the printer spits out reams of pages with what looks

Grandstream web configuration utility
I just purchased a Grandstream gxp-2000, budgetone102 and a HT-386.
Browsing to each device by IP address, I can get logged in using admin
and I can see the advanced settings, however, if I try to change the
settings and clicking the Change button, it just brings me back to ask
for the password again..
I can't get into the Status page or any of the Account1-4 pages either.
It just keeps

domain controller parameter

# Windows95 workstations.
domain logons = no
Why is the domain controller parameter sparking an error message?
FWIW I've managed to make my samba server visible on some browse lists,
but not all. Unfortunately, just because the server is visible doesn't
mean that a particular PeeCee can mount it. They get an "Invalid Path"
error. I did not see any notation of the failure to connect in the log
files when it failed most recently.
Conversely, on many systemms that CANNOT see samba in the browse list,
the user can mount the server with the \\system\directory path.

Sparc?
My 12 year old wants to learn more about servers and has memorized a lot of commands like ls, chmod, du, etc.
He wants to have his own domain and server on the web and I have enough Static IP's, so why not foster this interest.
I have an old ultra sparc 5. Are there any CentOS versions that support Sparc?
Or recommendations? I know OpenBSD does, but I am more versed in Solaris and versions

upsmon and Chloride UPS
Hi,
We have 2 UPS Chloride 80 NET 120 ( a black and white one ) in our
datacenter.
Could you please tell me if it is possible to use upsmon or other free
solution with these two UPS for shuting down servers during electrical lost
power before battery crash
.
Beet regards,
Roger

Actually E4500's are not bad machines. Yes, they are slow compared to
PeeCee's/servers these days, but they are still darn reliable. I had a
couple of E4500's with 8x400 Mhz US-II ( 8 MB Cache), 8 GB RAM connected
to a A5100. They ran reliably and flawlessly (except for replacing the
battery on A5100). They have a lot of resilience to load. We've had load

Oracle and ZFS
Hi All ;
One of our customer is suffered from FS being corrupted after an unattanded
shutdonw due to power problem.
They want to switch to ZFS.
>From what I read on, ZFS will most probably not be corrupted from the same
event. But I am not sure how will Oracle be affected from a sudden power
outage when placed over ZFS ?
Any comments ?

ashift and vdevs
zdb -C shows an shift value on each vdev in my pool, I was just wondering if
it is vdev specific, or pool wide. Google didn''t seem to know.
I''m considering a mixed pool with some "advanced format" (4KB sector)
drives, and some normal 512B sector drives, and was wondering if the ashift
can be set per vdev, or only per pool. Theoretically, this would save me

The best motherboard for a home ZFS fileserver
I''m a fan of ZFS since I''ve read about it last year.
Now I''m on the way to build a home fileserver and I''m thinking to go with Opensolaris and eventually ZFS!!
Apart from the other components, the main problem is to choose the motherboard. The offer is incredibly high and I''m lost.
Minimum requisites should be:
- working well with Open Solaris ;-)
