C7 and default sound
When I right click on desktop and bring up "sound". I have two items. Digital output (S/PDIF) buildin audio HDMI/Displayport 2 - Gk208 HDMI audio controller It seems I always default to S/PDIF.... How can I get this to default to HDMI always ? If I select HDMI and reboot it goes back to S/PDIF. I am running pulse audio. Thanks, Jerry

There are three volume sliders labeled S/PDIF and the second one has "Default" tacked on to it. All three have volume set at zero and alsamixer won't allow any change. The default should be HDA Intel PCH. I have a strong suspicion that there's a config file somewhere that somehow got messed up, but all the config files th...

answer to recent post
Hi there, I just saw this post on the mailing list. Quite some users in the broadcast industry use our "Instreamer", a real-time embedded mp3 encoder. It has an S/PDIF interface (unfortunately no AES/EBU) but there are inexpensive converters from AES/EBU to S/PDIF. And the Instreamer itself is also considered very inexpensive. Multichannel files
Hi, As I´ve understood things, the Ogg Vorbis format supports more that two channels (stereo). Is there any tools to encode x sourcefiles into one .ogg file? I am a musican and am thrilled with the ide of makeing music in surround (or in more than stereo). This leads to my next question: is there (developing) any decoders for multichannel oggs to, let us say, 4.1 or 5.1 surround? Wouldn´t it

Why most AC97 soundcard has different sample rates of of capturing and rendering?
Hi all, I remember someone (sorry I forgot his name) told me that AC97 capturing codec has its own PLL clock generator to fit for S/PDIF input which has its own clock. So the mismatch between clocks of capturing and rendering is unavoidable. But after reading the Audio Codec 97 Revision 2.3 Revision 1.0 document carefully, I can only find proofs that the mismatch should not exist. In chapter 3.4, page 23, clocking for Multiple Cod...

Sound failure in CentOS 6.8
Sound stopped working on my CentOS 6.8 system several months ago. I've tried everything I can to find out what's wrong. It is not the hardware; if I boot into a live dvd of 6.8 (or any other OS), the sound works perfectly. So something must have changed in my configuration. I've compared files on my system and another CentOS 6.8 system with working sound and I haven't found

...enough to avoid promoting 16-bit to > 24-bit without noticing their mistake. I suspect that this is sometimes done dishonestly in order to sell hi-fi enthusiasts DVD-A's made from lower-quality source material. After all, they do sell $35 dollar "high definition" digital coaxial S/PDIF cables at your local Radio Shack. And you lost me on the last paragraph there, but that's okay. [Bug 84515] New: [NV96] HDMI audio works, but has audio gaps or pauses
...internal speakers, i.e. the whole normal analog audio output system, produces a loud static, which I have to mute in Alsamixer by muting "Speaker". - The song comes out mostly fine on the TV! (Was this supposed to work??) I found I can mute the HDMI audio in alsamixer by setting "S/PDIF" off. No other control I tried has any effect on it. That is ok for me. Apart from the static in the laptop speakers, the primary annoying problem is that the HDMI audio has short gaps or pauses. I measured it by ear for a couple of minutes, and the gaps occur roughly 33 second intervals. The...

What systems are you using to listen to Oggs?
What rigs do you folks use to listen to your music? I have a P-III 500 with Altec Lansing speakers in the dining room and a P-II 350 with Labtec speakers in the Guestroom/office. Sorry, I can't remember what model the Lansings are off the top of my head. The Labtec speakers are fairly cheap. I have a PCI ensonique sound card in the P-III system. I not sure what kind of sound card is in the
