Warning when compiling nmbd_incomingdgrams.c
I just downloaded samba-1.9.18p3.tar.gz and compiled it on a DEC 3000/300 running OSF/1 v3.0 (uname -mrsv gives: "OSF1 V3.0 347 alpha") using the built-in cc compiler. The compiler gives the following warning: Compiling nmbd_incomingdgrams.c /usr/lib/cmplrs/cc/cfe: Warning: nmbd_incomingdgrams.c, line 452: Unknown character \ ignored ((DEBUGLEVEL>=(5))?(Debug1

Group Policies
I was told that this mailing list might be a good place to get some answers that another one I'm on couldn't answer. I am using Samba to serve a small Christian school in PA, and we went for it mostly because of the cost - how much better than free can you get! I've been very pleased with it, as it's my first server setup. Learned a lot and have gotten a lot of help. However,

Roaming Profiles with Samba PDC
I have been working on this problem for quite some time now and have not been able to find the solution. I have Samba running on Debian Linux 3.0 (Woody) as a primary domain controller. From my Windows 2000 desktop I am able to browse that Linux server with Windows Explorer. My biggest problem is trying to log in to that domain. Under Windows 2000 I am able to join the domain (sjmlinux) but

samba will disappear from the win2000's network places
Dear all: I've found one strange things. I am using Red Hat Linux 5.2 and Samba 2.0.6. (I rebuild the RPM in RH 5.2) The samba is treated as a Server. Every windows 95/98/NT could access the samba server without problem. In windows 2000 RC2 (treated as client), it could access the samba server. But if I enable the "IP Security Policies on Local Machine". (You can enable

PDC Migration to Samba
Hi I've been trying to finally switch off our NT4 PDC over the last few months and transfer PDC duties to our Samba file server. Although I have no difficulty in getting the Samba box to authenticate users as the PDC, I have never been able to migrate the user's settings over. As far as the clients (NT4 and W2K) are concerned, users effectively start with a "clean slate" i.e.

NE00: printer files left behind on Samba shares
Hi We've noticed that we get zero length files left behind on Samba shares after printing to a Samba printer, of the form NExx: (appears as NExx~yy) from Windows due to name mangling. This only occurs in specific circumstances: Client running NT4 (SP6a) and Printing file on a Samba share and Printing to a Samba printer and Running particular applications (e.g. Word and Acrobat, but not

Trouble with CUPS/SAMBA
Hi all, I'm new to this list, as to SAMBA, and I'm struggling with getting a printer to work as a shared printer in a Windows network with a redhat 9 server. The printer is a HP 4550 Color LaserJet, installed with CUPS to the server, via JetDirect (port 9100). It prints testpages fine from the Linux-server. It was installed with the install-printer-utility in RedHat9. I have then shared

Login with a NT 4.0 PDC
Hi all, I want to make a Samba Sever as amember of a Domain, using a Windows NT 4.0 as PDC. I have my smb.conf configured to do this, but users ca't connect on Samba useing the Windows NT account. Is it possible or I have to create them on a smbpasswd to make them login on it? I have a Samba Server 3.0.7 running under a Slackware Linux 10.0, with Kernel 2.6.8.1. I'm sending my smb.conf

Windows 2000
Just curious, has anyone gotten Samba to work with Windows 2000? I've mucked with it a bit. But can't seem to make it go. I haven't tried applying the NT 4.0 Registry patches yet I will probably take a look at them and see if I can get them working with Win2000. Thanks! -- Steve "We confuse you, or your money back!"
