I just downloaded samba-1.9.18p3.tar.gz and compiled it on a DEC 3000/300 running OSF/1 v3.0 (uname -mrsv gives: "OSF1 V3.0 347 alpha") using the built-in cc compiler. The compiler gives the following warning: Compiling nmbd_incomingdgrams.c /usr/lib/cmplrs/cc/cfe: Warning: nmbd_incomingdgrams.c, line 452: Unknown character \ ignored ((DEBUGLEVEL>=(5))?(Debug1 ("process_lm_host_announce: LM Announcement packet does not " \ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------^ The lines in nmbd_incomingdgrams.c that the compiler complains about, looks like this (starting vith line 450): if ((osmajor < 36) || (osmajor > 38) || (osminor !=0)) { DEBUG(5,("process_lm_host_announce: LM Announcement packet does not " \ "originate from OS/2 Warp client. Ignoring packet.\n")); /* Could have been from a Windows machine (with its LM Announce enabled), or a Samba server. Then don't disrupt the current browse list. */ return; } Nothing serious I guess. So, would it be possible to set up a linux > workstation which can mount PC shared drives using smbfs, and export > these to the sun workstations using nfs? It's inefficient, I know, > but in terms of implementation it doesn't seem too difficult.I just tested this out and it works fine, at least in terms of NFS exporting the share to another Linux box. I presume the Sun NFS client wouldn't have any problems either. Things like this are what, for me, makes Linux such a terrific OS in mixed Unix/Wintel environments. For instance, I can mount the NetWare server in my office onto a Linux box and then use Samba to export the volume to Windows machines, or use NFS to export it to Unix hosts. And with the CIPE encrypted tunneling mechanism (still only available for Linux -- see http://www.inka.de/~bigred/devel/cipe.html) all of this can be done securely. Peter ----- Peter H. Hi, I have to following problem : I have multiple win95 computer configured such that the user profile is on the samba server. I made one general account that multiple users can access simultaneously. It is configured such that the profile is never saved at end of the session. I had the problem that the user.dat part of the profile has to be accessed in write mode (if not : dialog box telling registry had problem, and have to restore from the backup). Ok i solved it by preventing those users using regedit. The problem is now that they are accessing user.dat simultaneously, so trying to write it too. If samba locked the file, win95 says the same thing (problem with registry, try to restore thye backup). How can I prevent this? Other problem : is there a way to prevent users to reboot win95 in MS-DOS mode, without preventing them to use DOS windows... Because if they boot in dos, they can access regedit and so mess up registry...
