Just curious, has anyone gotten Samba to work with Windows 2000? I've mucked with it a bit. But can't seem to make it go. I haven't tried applying the NT 4.0 Registry patches yet I will probably take a look at them and see if I can get them working with Win2000. Thanks! -- Steve "We confuse you, or your money back!"
Has anyone yet had the opportunity of integrating a Windows 2000 Professional machine into a network with Linux/Samba ?? On our existing Linux/Samba machines we have implemented plain text passwords for NT and Win95/98, does anyone know wether the plain text patch for the NT will work with Win2K Pro ? So here is my problem. I have Samba installed on an HP-UX box. I can browse and access the samba shares from Win98 no problem at all. From Windows NT 4.0 I can find the computer but browsing does not show any of the shares. I can however connect to the shares on NT 4.0 using 'net use' On Windows 2000 nothing works. I can't find the Samba machine and 'net use' does not work. I know that the win2000 machine is talking to Samba because I can see the ip of the samba machine if I do a 'nbtstat -c' and if I watch the samba logs I see some activity when trying to connect from the win2000 box. How can I get the Windows 2000 machine working and how do I get browsing to working from the NT 4.0 box? I'm running Samba 2.0.6 Thanks, -James -------------- next part -------------- HTML attachment scrubbed and removed
Hi, This is my first email to the samba mailing list. I have samba config on my Red Hat 6.2 box for some time. It worked wonderful with my Windows 98 (networked) I could see my shares in network neighborhood. Since upgrading to windows 2000 I have had no luck in networking my Linux box using samba. Anyway Ideas? And thanks in advance Regards Don't Fear the Penguin. Eileen Orbell Software & Internet Applications Capitol College Laurel MD mailto:eileen@orbell.com
Hi all We've now got Win 2000 server and professional on site and I need help on 2 areas: 1> I need to enable the client to authenticate against our Samba fileserver until we bringing Win2000 server on line as the PDC, but when joining the domain I get an error message saying "Cannot connect to the domain - the procedure is out of range" 2> I will soon need to authenticate against the Win2000 server running dhcp, but still need to run the samba file server (with static IP address)and as I understand it, the windows machine needs to use the same passwords as Linux. Is there anything else I need to do? I have Samba 2.0.7 installed (Network Neighbourhood still says 2.0.5a but log.smb says 2.0.7 has been started) Thanks Matt Unless otherwise agreed expressly in writing by Fesa UK Limited, this communication should be treated as confidential and the information contained therein may not be used or disclosed except for the purpose for which it was sent. We have a windows 2000 machine on our network, and it can't access the Samba share. When we double click on the samba share, we get the following message: "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect." Does anyone else have this problem? And, is there a fix available for it? -- K-Tag: I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it. ------ Kevin Procter Programmer (Writer & SCUBA GUY too) Ingersoll, Ontario - CANADA http://www.attcanada.ca/~kprocter
I'm using 2.0.7 Do you have the O'Reilly book Using Samba by Robert Eckstein, David Collier-Brown & Peter Kelly? I worked through that, tried a few things and after about a fortnight finally got it (rebuilt my Ultra 5 about 3 times in the process but got therein the end. I believe the problem that I was having was thus: I too have been using shares - I created one for my home directory: [darren] comment = darren's directory path = /export/home/darren writeable = yes guest = yes I guess the problem to be related to the fact that NT (and 2000 I guess) send an encrypted password to the Samba server while trying to connect to the shares that are available. That was my understanding of it. I could see my Samba server in Network Neighbourhood but no shares, do the password bit and hey presto... Perhaps someone with a little more knowledge on this would be able to explain things correctly or in a better way? Our network group move the PC to windows 2000 this week. We can no longer use the connection through Samba. The network group is on the east coast and we are on the west coast of USA. They pay little attention our Unix Group. Thanks Jim (James) Day IT APEC/Schumacher 760-931-2038 dayjp@apci.com +
