Speex ACM codec released on www.openacm.org
...c enables Windows to create and play back WAVE files containing Speex content. It might also be useful for use with Netmeeting (after some registry hacking. Not tested yet.). I also provide a portable playback tool (speexdec_wav) that handles both the Ogg and WAVE containers. Get the codec on www.openacm.org . Source code is available. It has plenty of features for a first release and I am confident that this release will not require too many bugfixes. However it has undergone only limited testing on my Windows XP system here. What I would like to figure out (among other things) is: * Does it r...

Is there any speex plugin for windows media player?
> While on the subject of plug-ins, has anyone written a Speex plug-in > for the Goldwave audio editor? There is an ACM codec for I/O of WAVE files encoded in Speex. ( www.openacm.org ) But there is no plugin to load or save Vorbis Speex files natively, as far as I know. hmm, howabout a typedef instead of void *
...datatype other than void* for these things, these goofs couldn't happen so easily ;) void* is evil. This could be implemented in future codec versions without breaking code compatibility (assuming no one is willfully casting his speex handles to void*). Oh, I got my domain and hosting for www.openacm.org - The site should be up in 2-3 days. ACM Format Tag for Speex Audio
I have arranged for an official Speex ACM format tag from Microsoft (see below). Feel free to use this in any ACM codec work. ACM Format Tag for Speex Audio
...Microsoft (see below). Feel > free to use this in any ACM codec work. Hmm, I chose my format tag "randomly" by adding up some ASCII values. ;) Looking at the registered companies in mmreg.h I found not one non-profit organization. Hence I thought I should not even try registering my OpenACM project with Microsoft. Erm, so how many ACM codecs for speex are there right now? ;) One problem with these would be interoperability. If three different ACM implementations all used the same format tag, they would most likely not play well with each other. I have a very specific arrangement in...

Speex ACM full release
If you want to put Speex content into WAVE and AVI files, you can now do so. ;) On www.openacm.org you will find the codec. Its status has just been updated to an official release and you should no longer see crashes when using VirtualDub and CDex. Just be warned that the codec only accepts 8000, 16000 and 32000 Hz because of the codec's design and the lack of an internal resampler. Thi...

Speex, what container?
I'm going to use speex to compress sound that was record from a sound board. What container should I use so it will be able to play in some sound player available for windows, ogg or wave? If I choose to use wav container I simple have to put the speex stream into the data chunk of the wave file? I heard that there is a codec to put speex in a wav file so it can be played in windows media

Sphinx work-in-progress sourcecode
Since two people have asked me to open the source code on my work-in-progress Integer Speex project, I have put it up onto my site www.openacm.org as a download in the project tree. the suggested directory structure is as follows, i.e. the speex source folder should be on the same directory level as the sphinx filder. peex-1.0.1 (ideally the folder from within the SpeexACM source archive) sphinx-1.0.1 I am doing development on Visu...

Speex, what container?
...ogg/speex files from a .wav file. The code is pretty straightforward and should be fairly easy to modify to read directly from a sound card, if that's what you want to do. If you don't care about unix support, then you can get the ACM codec for speex at www.openacm.org. It is my understanding that you can play these with just about anything using the ACM interface under windows, but I "don't do windows," so you're on your own there. Speex 1.0.1 is out
Hi everyone, I just released Speex version 1.0.1 with a major bugfix to the wideband mode. It's highly recommended for people using wideband Speex to upgrade. Also, since the old encoder and decoder had the bug, you may notice that files encoded with 1.0 have a lower quality when decoded with 1.0.1. For that reason, re-encoding might be a good idea. Note that narrowband is not affected by
