Install new version of Samba on Redhat Linux
Hello, I want to setup a Samba PDC on a RedHat Linux6.0 for NTWS, but I got some problems, could anybody has ideas? RedHat 6.0 include samba version 2.0.3. And 2.0.3 seems cannot be a PDC for NTWS. So I tired to download and install a newer version of Samba (2.0.6 and CVS). After I install the newer version, I found that it still cannot be a PDC for NTWS (can...

owner of a smbd thread
Hi, I've set up a Samba server accessed by NTWS 4. When I do a "ps aux" on the server, i can see a line for each user connected with a "smbd -D" command. The owners of these commands are mostly root but sometimes the users themselves. How to force the owner of the command in order to be available to get a list of connected...

Version 1.9.18p8
I've recently installed Version 1.9.18p8 on a V2.6 Solaris x86 box. This system has an 8GB disk that I'm sharing out using Samba. After I map this share to a drive letter on my V4 NTWS, the properties for this drive reports that it is only 4GB. Is this a known "bug"? Other than the bogus information, will it have any adverse affects after the disk fills up to exceed 4GB used? -- Charlie Mengler charliem@anchorchips.com Anchor Chips...

Long Share Names and Windows NT Workstation 4.0
...if there is a limit on the length of share names in Samba when accessing via NT Workstation 4.0 clients? It seems that the limit is 12 characters for NT, our Windows 98, 2000 and XP machines work with longer share names. If so does anyone know if there is a patch to make long share names work with NTWS 4.0? Using Office2K (Word & Excel) on NTWS 4.0 and samba 3.0.0 on Debian Linux, kernel 2.4.21. 1. Run Excel and create a sheet. Save it to the Samba server. No problem. 2. Close the sheet and open a new one (File->New). 3. Try to save the new sheet over the first one and Excel gives the error: "Cannot save the file. 'H:\test\Bo...

NT Controller NETLOGON script hosing connects to Samba shares
...NT admin wrote a NETLOGON script, which, among other things, mounts a number of NT domain shares to specific drive letters on the client machines. Since this was implemented, users can mount a Samba share during a session, but can't access the share on subsequent logons, even though they tell NTWS to reconnect at logon. They can access the share during that session, but if they log off and log back on again, they are never authenticated to the Samba servers. The drive letters show the name of the shares, but if they try to open them, the get an "Access Denied" error. (of course,...

...hem are) and dive into the MS knowledge base to investigate then and fix the resolvable ones. Once you have the stuff working as close to your liking as you can get on NT, you can move to Samba. Once there, you can exploit Samba's greater flexibility to get the Win9x client handling to resemble NTWS client handling more closely than an NT server does. E.g using a pre-exec script, it's easy to give new Win9x clients a default initial profile from the server (as per NT clients) instead of landing them with whatever default local user profile is on the workstation from which they first log on...

sip tone question
Hello All, We are running Asterisk on a linux server as a SIP proxy with Cisco ATA 186's at the subscriber end. For long distance we have iax2 connectivity with a ip carrier. For local calls we are routing out through a commercial VEGA voicestream pots unit to an adtran channel bank and then from there to our class 5 soft switch. The sip to sip calls and the long distance calls work great.
