How to replace ntfs by ntfs-3g?
Hello,
I can write to an ntfs partion if mounting it by hand with 'mount -t
ntfs-3g /dev/sdf5 /mnt/xp'. But if I use the mount option from the kde
Storage Media panel applet (kdebase-3.5.4-13.6.el5.centos) then the
partion will be mounted without write support. So how to say kde and
CentOS to use ntfs-3g and not ntfs? M...

sysutils/fusefs-ntfs working for anyone?
Hi there,
I've been trying to mount my NTFS partitions with the NTFS-3g project's
FUSE implementation but am unable to mount anything.
I'm on 6-STABLE and have the latest versions of FUSE installed:
fusefs-kmod-0.3.0_4 Kernel module for fuse
fusefs-libs-2.6.2 FUSE allows filesystem implementation in userspace

me, I've never trusted ntfs on linux, and would rather have a windows
machine mount and serve it over SMB or whatever....

ntfs-3g data deduplication support in guestmount for creating file based back-ups on visualization platform
Hello everybody,
I am using libguestfs-tools version 1.28.1 in a bunch of bash scripts to
make back-ups of the files on a visualisation platform.
I been trying to get read access to ntfs volumes with data deduplication
working.
The ntfs-3g guys developed some support and I have this working when
using the commands our back-up servers.
However when using the guestmount tool the read suport foor dedub is gone.
See this email for all the commands I use (working mount -t ntfs and...

libguestfs-winsupport
Hello! I have a mess with libguestfs-winsupport package.
I my repo (centos-7.1-based distro) I have ntfs-3g-2015-3.14 in epel
(and not versions anywhere else).
I got libguestfs-winsupport-7.1.X but it contains ntfs-3g-2014* and
conflicts with epel ntfs-3g (although if I run rpm -ivh --force
libguestfs-winsupport, the appliance uses v2015).
I found on ~rjones/ libguestfs-winsupport-7.2.1 (without n...

[GIT PULL] NTFS features and fixes
.... When there are a lot

and there is no more space in the MFT record, all those attributes that
can be made
non-resident are moved out the MFT, so this is where the $ATTRIBUTE_LIST

- Most people must have seen the ugly "EDD error" when installing Syslinux
in an NTFS
partition and then booting it up. So this issue won't occur anymore with
the temporary
workaround that makes the issue with btrfs probe not to happen anymore.
- Fix the issue with POSIX and Win32 filenames, where a directory "WINDOWS"
exists, for
example, it couldn't be acc...

NTFS problems
So there seem to be some shortcomings in NTFS, still.
1. Symlinks are not supported. Proper symlinks exist in NTFS since
Vista, so we should support them.
2. readdir() seems to be broken.
I have been using the following test load to generate disk images:
http://www.zytor.com/~hpa/syslinux/exttest-20140521.tar.xz

I've been trying to get this to work for a while now but no luck...
I have a NTFS formatted drive mounted using ntfs-3g on a linux computer.
This drive is then shared using Samba. When I connect to the share from a
windows machine and create new files their permissions are set for three
users: Everyone, Root (unix user) and Root (unix group) but the actual user

ntfs support
I should think this is quite a basic question but what I have tried so
far hasn't worked. I have centos altarch 7 and I want to mount an ntfs
volume.
(I am beginning to suspect it is not available for 32 bit so I will need
to get the source and compile?)
?These commands I have tried:
yum --enablerepo=extras install epel-release
yum --enablerepo=extras
yum install epel-release
I have enabled extras, but I don't know what epel-rele...

Validating alignment of NTFS/VMDK/ZFS blocks
Good evening,
I understand that NTFS & VMDK do not relate to Solaris or ZFS, but I was wondering if anyone has any experience of checking the alignment of data blocks through that stack?
I have a VMware ESX 4.0 host using storage presented over NFS from ZFS filesystems (recordsize 4KB). Within virtual machine VMDK files, I have f...

Sorry, I thought you were subscribed but this sounds as if you are not.

Good to note. The most likely answer is that the code either assumes
4096, assumes no more than 4096 OR there's actually a bug in your file
system. I'll peek to see if I can tell from your VBR...

ntfs-3g question
This is probably a dumb question, but I've looked around and I can't
find anything on this.
I'm using ntfs-3g now, from rpmforge, to access my M$ Window$ disks
for offline backup and other such menial tasks, and I noticed that the
ntfs file systems are not mounted automatically, but I have to mount
them manually as ntfs-3g devices.
I _thought_ when I installed the whole dkms-fuse and fuse-ntfs-3g
packa...

[PATCH 2/2] daemon: use ntfslabel(1) to get ntfs labels
blkid(1) (or actually, libblkid) seems to handle filesystem labels up
to 127 characters. Considering that btrfs labels can be up to 128
characters, this means long labels are not read correctly (i.e. get
truncated) by blkid. Furthermore, ntfs labels are actually unicode,
and libblkid seems to not decode them correctly.
Hence, if ntfsprogs is available invoke `ntfslabel` to get the label
of ntfs filesystems.
Related to RHBZ#1164708.

Re: ntfs-3g data deduplication support in guestmount for creating file based back-ups on visualization platform
Thank you Richard!
I will do some more work and testing on this tomorrow, and report back
with some more information you asked.
In the meanwhile, could you help me with information how I can upgrade
the ntfs-3g version (same as host) in the "appliance" and add the
plug-in library?

[PATCH] NTFS: fix incorrect file->offset usage in ntfs_readdir
file->offset is used to store position in index root between
ntfs_readdir calls.
Previously, pointer to buffer was stored in this field. However this
buffer is reallocated and read each ntfs_readdir call so the pointer may
become incorrect.
Now offset in index root rather than pointer is stored in this field.
