SWAT is working but shows smbd/nmbd: not running
Hi all,
I had nForce3 motherboard that has broken. Than I bought nForce4
motherboard. I connected old hard disk to this new nForce4 motherboard. For
net and sound support I download drivers from nvidia.com site. This driver
asks kernel source to be on local disk and gcc compiler.
After I installed kernel source and gcc, driver is successfully installed.

Just know that the pre-sale evaluation was of the nForce4, and didn't
take the nForce Pro 2200 and 2200+2050 designs into consideration.
E.g., the nForce Pro 2200 has 1.0GBps (2) PCI-X 1.0 channels. Any
off-chipset NIC is typically connected to those, so there is not the same
bottleneck as a legacy 0.125GBps PCI channel like on the nForce4.

Tyan K8SE (S2892) / nForce Pro Experiences
Has anyone installed Linux (CentOS or other) on a Tyan K8SE (S2892)
motherboard? I'd really like to hear your experiences -- with this board
or Nvidia's nForce Pro chipset in general.
I'm looking to build a new server using this board but would like to
find some other experiences first. I've googled myself blue but haven't
found any reviews or postings regarding this

Re: htb traffic shaping problem (Charlie Meyer)
Eric,
I''ve attached the output from the command you requested below.
I''m using kernel 2.6.17.12 and tc version ss060323. I''m have a nforce4
onboard giggabit controller using the forcedeth driver, if that makes a
difference.
Charlie,
I''ll take a look at the Apache model for throttling, thanks. I was going
for tc because was going to try to add additional shaping to non-apache
traffic once I got it working correctly.

providing drivers at boot time for SATA
I just got a motherboard with the nforce4 chipset.
Apparantly the PCI'ids changed for the SATA and the drivers are not
loaded or found at install time.
What can I do to provide them? I am using CentOS 4.3.
Will those new changes to 4.4 handle this?
Thanks

CentOS 5 + Nforce 4 SLI Intel SATA problems
...the same thing with Suse 10.1, the same setup was 100%
reliable. I also have two 160gig Maxtor ATA133 drive in the machine on
the on board PATA controller and they work totally reliable. I'm
wondering if anyone else is having a problem with on board nvidia sata
controller thats part of the nforce4 chipset?
btw its using the sata_nv driver. Also when I reboot it works fine for a
few hours and then begins to act up again. Its not a heat problem, the
drives have a working fan directly blowing on the drives, and the case
its in has very good airflow.

Looking for motherboard/chipset experience, again
What about the Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard? It has 7 SATA ports,
supports ECC memory, socket AM2, generally looks very attractive for
my home storage server. Except that it, and the nvidia nForce 570-SLI
it''s built on, don''t seem to be on the HCL. I''m hoping that''s just
"yet", not reported yet. Anybody run Solaris on it? Or at least on

ZFS works in waves
A little back story: I have a Norco DS-1220, a 12 bay SATA box, it is
connected to eSATA (SiI3124) via PCI-X two drives are straight
connections, then the other two ports go to 5x multipliers within the
box. My needs/hopes for this was using 12 500GB drives and ZFS make a
very large & simple data dump spot on my network for other servers to

Any ideas?
I thought of connecting it with a serial cable, maybe that's more stable?
Thank you,

Leaking audio and AGC/VAD
Hi,
I am working on a VOIP implementation were one of the key design goals
is zero user configuration. Similar to Skype.
What I've come to notice is that my soundcard (NForce4 based) leaks
audio from the playback path to the recording path.
This is probably not unique for my hardware at all and will happen on
some percentage of all users of my software.
(All of this is Win32)
What happens is that when no one is talking I think Speex pre-processor

Hot swap SATA?
Should it be possible to hot-swap SATA drives with Centos5? It doesn't
seem to work on my system. Removing an unmounted drive locked the
system up, and leaving one out at bootup makes the devices change names
and keeps grub from finding /boot on a scsi drive that is shifted up.
