unz( "x.zip", "y.csv" ) != pipe( "unzip -p x.zip y.csv" )
Not sure this is a bug in R. Maybe its a bug in my understanding of unz(). The character 'b2' (hexadecimal) is in position 535 of line 1 of 'naughty.csv'. This character appears as superscript '2' and came to me in an EXCEL file that I converted to text in a comma separated ( *.csv ) format. The first line gets truncated by readLines after 534 characters using unz():

Base R examples that write to current working directory
Hi all, Given the recent CRAN push to prevent examples writing to the working directory, is there any interest in fixing base R examples that write to the working directory? A few candidates are the graphics devices, file.create(), writeBin(), writeChar(), write(), and saveRDS(). I'm sure there are many more. One way to catch these naughty examples would be to search for unlink() in

Big Thanks to Johnny
As a result of following Johnny's handy dandy guide, the postfix/clamav/spamassassin/squirrelmail/dovecot install on one of my new 4.3 boxes was mostly painless. I've been using postfix and keeping in touch with Wietse since 98-ish so I'm quite comfy with postfix, but all this new fangled mail scanning stuff is a bit confusing to an old dog like me. :-) It seems to mostly work,

SIP to H323 with no joy
Greetings and salutations to all... I'm having a bit of a problem getting a SIP phone (Xten) to call an H323 Cisco ATA-186. Both devices can call into the * and get the demo, voicemail, etc... I'm pretty sure my problem is in my configs as it feels like a stupid error and to prove this to myself I set tcpdump on the * box to capture all UDP traffic going to and from the ATA-186. If I

rspec groups?
One of the things I really liked about TestNG was the grouping feature. Are there any plans for rSpec to incorporate that? Is there any way to emulate that functionality in rspec? Will.

IDAFree-4.9: screen does not get displayed properly
Hello, when I try and run IDA (wine idafree49.exe) under wine-0.9.56 (also wine-0.9.36) the screen with the assembler listing (and other listings) does not get displayed properly: The strings overwrite each other, thus leading to an unreadable result. Cf. http://www.screenshots.cc/view_image/6cc4d1836/ida_wine_0.9.56.png I have tried various settings in winecfg, but without success. The

beta4 merge
Monty merged his branch onto mainline. mainline is now beta4. Give it a whirl, test the crap out of it, etc. I've got about 20-30 emails full of minor patches and a few big patches for build system stuff, so for those of you who were waiting on me, I haven't forgotten and will be getting to those in the next few days. If all goes well, we'll be tagging beta4 and cutting the

[LLVMdev] New llvm-gcc4 snapshot
Markus, We are in the process of trying to make this happen. It's a matter of getting all the duckings lined up in a row. We finally resigned ourselves to the fact that we can't cvs/svn and maintain the sanity of FSF branches, Apple branches and LLVM branches. So, over the next few working days we are going to set up a nightly cron script to checkout the latest and greatest

some basic questions
I'm seeking a small IMAP server, and dovecat was recommended by those more savvy than me. (The sign on my monitor is "My programming language is solder..") so I'll be getting help to deploy this, but first... I've read through the wiki docs but still have questions, ones likely too obvious for most readers.... There will be <100 users, the platform will Debian, and I

Can someone explain this statement?
I was reading through the doc''s last night and made a bunch of notes. One of the things that I wanted to learn more about was this statement: As Puppet matures, it expected that the file element will be used less and less to manage content, and instead native elements will be used to do so. Can someone please explain what this means, what the plan is, and what type of concept you are
