unz( "x.zip", "y.csv" ) != pipe( "unzip -p x.zip y.csv" )
Not sure this is a bug in R. Maybe its a bug in my understanding of unz(). The character 'b2' (hexadecimal) is in position 535 of line 1 of 'naughty.csv'. This character appears as superscript '2' and came to me in an EXCEL file that I converted to text in a comma separated ( *.csv ) format. The first line gets truncated by readLines after 534 characters using unz(): > nchar( readLines( unz( "bad.zip", "naughty.c...

Base R examples that write to current working directory
...revent examples writing to the working directory, is there any interest in fixing base R examples that write to the working directory? A few candidates are the graphics devices, file.create(), writeBin(), writeChar(), write(), and saveRDS(). I'm sure there are many more. One way to catch these naughty examples would be to search for unlink() in examples: e.g., https://github.com/wch/r-source/search?utf8=?&q=unlink+extension%3ARd&type=. Of course, simply cleaning up after yourself is not sufficient because if those files existed before the examples were run, the examples will destroy them...

Big Thanks to Johnny
...y work, although one of the components seems to have a hair trigger and flags known-clean binary attachments and dumps them into the "hold" bin. I guess my next task is to figure out how to corral that cruft into a "bulk" folder like gmail or figure out how to turn down the naughty threshold a bit. In any case, it probably would have taken me days to sort it all out without Johnny's guide. Thanks! I'm hoping to get things to the point that I'm comfortable downloading mail onto my little HTC Wizard (Cingular 8125) mobile windows/phone thing without worrying...

R Solves Shakespeare Authorship Question
Those of you who track applications of R may be interested in the following: "The purpose of this paper is then to apply modern text analysis techniques using the R statistical packege [sic] to compare the works attributed to Shakespeare to those of leading alternate candidates such as Sir Frances Bacon, Christopher Marlow, and Edward de Vere...".

rspec groups?
One of the things I really liked about TestNG was the grouping feature. Are there any plans for rSpec to incorporate that? Is there any way to emulate that functionality in rspec? Will.

IDAFree-4.9: screen does not get displayed properly
Hello, when I try and run IDA (wine idafree49.exe) under wine-0.9.56 (also wine-0.9.36) the screen with the assembler listing (and other listings) does not get displayed properly: The strings overwrite each other, thus leading to an unreadable result. Cf. http://www.screenshots.cc/view_image/6cc4d1836/ida_wine_0.9.56.png I have tried various settings in winecfg, but without success. The

Monty merged his branch onto mainline. mainline is now beta4. Give it a whirl, test the crap out of it, etc. I've got about 20-30 emails full of minor patches and a few big patches for build system stuff, so for those of you who were waiting on me, I haven't forgotten and will be getting to those in the next few days. If all goes well, we'll be tagging beta4 and cutting the

[LLVMdev] New llvm-gcc4 snapshot
...a row. We finally resigned ourselves to the fact that we can't cvs/svn and maintain the sanity of FSF branches, Apple branches and LLVM branches. So, over the next few working days we are going to set up a nightly cron script to checkout the latest and greatest llvm branch, strip the naughty bits, tarball, and then post on llvm.org. An announcement will be made here when it's available. We hope this will suffice. Cheers, -- Jim On Jun 1, 2006, at 7:04 PM, Markus F.X.J. Can someone explain this statement?
I was reading through the doc''s last night and made a bunch of notes. One of the things that I wanted to learn more about was this statement: As Puppet matures, it expected that the file element will be used less and less to manage content, and instead native elements will be used to do so. Can someone please explain what this means, what the plan is, and what type of concept you are

ntlm_auth not returning "STATUS_OK"
...9; is run. So, Samba/ntlm_auth version 4.18.9 changes that to print ": (0x0)". I have never been in favor of developers changing the behavoir of programs when "new features" come out, expecially programs that might be used in scripts that rely on responses. I think it's naughty when developers do that. If behavoir is different from a previous version, then the new version ought to have a different name or a switch enabling the new/changed feature. Since the 4.18.9 ntlm_auth output has an oddly placed colon (:) in the string, as if some text was supposed to come before...
