Puzzled by what Rprof is telling me
...ing else had a small number of total seconds and self seconds. But the total time did not decrease. I don't understand how that could be, and would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks -Don Details, unfortunately lengthy, are here: The snippet of code I'm profiling is given below. 'inmat' is a numeric matrix with 128347 rows; I need to apply a function, sfun(), to each of 4191 subsets of rows, indexed by indat$grpi. sfun() is fairly complex, and requires information from all of the columns of inmat, so simple uses of, for example, aggregate() don't do the job. chroot-ing users coming in via SSH and/or SFTP?
A client wants me to set up a mechanism whereby his customers can drop files securely into directories on his FreeBSD server; he also wants them to be able to retrieve files if needed. The server is already running OpenSSH, and he himself is using Windows clients (TeraTerm and WinSCP) to access it, so the logical thing to do seems to be to have his clients send and receive files via SFTP or SCP.

Given for example c(1, 1, 2, 3, 2, 4, 5, 6, 4) I would like to get: FALSE FALSE TRUE FALSE TRUE TRUE FALSE FALSE TRUE In fact I need to check this on the columns of a matrix! I can do that of couse with loops but is there any function already available? Thanks

Cisco 7960 and Asterisk...not working...
Chuck, The first thing I would do is to upgrade the load to version 6 or higher. I'm running the latest...version 7.2. (I'm very happy with it) Are you using TFTP to load the configuration or manually configuring the 7960? I know it's a pain to setup TFTP just for a quick test. However, it's well worth it. If you have a CCO account you can find the latest load and config files

howto store local exchange prefixes ?
The local telco is now going 10 digit dialing even for local (free) calls which used to be 7 digit. For a while no problem, everyone will continue to dial 7 digits, and I'll add the area code. But pretty soon everyone will become used to 10 digits. There are about 40 3 digit local exchanges. I'd like to store the exchanges in a database, and use the dialplan to check them. I can
