Aki: Over the last three days, I've watched many other questions being asked and answered. Were they also impolite to ask?
Peter: What exactly was impolite about identifying missing information and listing the specific details that I'm looking for?
Aki & Peter: Do either of you know the answers to at least some of my questions?

Darwinian software development and the library function
Hi all,
Legend has it, that polite R programmers don't overwrite, say, the
print function.
However, this seems quite un-Darwinian to me (especially given that I
don't want to call all my arguments x and y).
I might want a function print.foo (myfoo, ...).
So I decided to be very impolite (in one of my packages) and overwrite
a few standard generics.
Plus, to the best of my knowledge it

Ok, I'm a dumb-ass today.
I failed to see the "available = no" in the service entry.
Sorry for wasting your time.

NHW Project - some update
Hello,
I don't have advanced on the NHW Project this past month, but I have
definitely validated its characteristics and this new version.
The NHW Codec preserves or enhances image neatness and sharpness, which
translates that on good quality images the NHW Codec is globally better
than HEVC, and on degraded (with blur, artifacts) images it is worse than
HEVC because it lacks of precision. I

Differences between puppet and puppetd
Hi all,
I am using Puppet to execute an Expect script (http://expect.sourceforge.net)
on a client. The Puppet recipe, test.pp, is:
exec { ''/root/test.exp'':
command => ''/root/test.exp'',
logoutput => true
}
The recipe runs correctly when run using ''puppet --debug --verbose test.pp'':
debug: /Stage[main]//Exec[/root/test.exp]:

"TipsAndTricks/ApacheVhostDir" changes for virtual host source files
I see someone has noticed my lack of suggestions or recommendations for
placement of virtual host source files...
Since there are many places to put virtual host source files, I had
intentionally avoided the discussion due to the complexities and to keep the
document restricted to a single topic. I had planned to create a separate
document devoted to the discussion. Specifically, there

[LLVMdev] running clang format on the Mips target
We are considering running clang format on the whole Mips target.
Is there any rule against this?
Is there any good argument against doing this even if there is no rule
against it?
TIA.

object.size vs lobstr::obj_size
I have posted this question on R-help where it was suggested to me
that I might get a better response on R-devel. So far I have gotten no
response. The post I am talking about is here:
https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2020-February/465700.html
My apologies for cross-posting, which I am aware is impolite and I
should have posted on R-devel in the first place - but I wasn't sure.

installing samba
Hi,
I just downloaded the latest version of Samba in the form of samba-latest.tar.gz
Managed to unzip it with gunzip but cannot figure out how to install it. Tried rpm but didn't work.
I have an earlier version of Samba (2.0.6) on my SuSE 6.4 machine already.
Can I just install the new version or do I need to do some sort of uninstall of the previous version first.
advTHANKSance,
Mariann

Linus' comments were also confrontational and impolite, and he then proceeded to continue Linux-specific discussions that were completely off-topic for this list while keeping LLVMDev

Who said anything about almighty authorities, and who mentioned Linus
or the kernel community now? Their emails are on the LLVMDev list for
everyone to read: I picked up what made sense to me.
But whatever.

Possible Bug?? (was: Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok)
Please lend me some expertise...
Ok, I know suggesting a bug is a bit impolite, but I cannot find a solution for
this and
none of the helpful people who have responded have been able to help either...
If I come off sounding a bit short it's just because I've tried many things to
get these
older clients printing. :-) Don't mean to annoy anyone. Appreciate any help!

When you're resurrecting six-month-old threads, it's polite to quote some history. :)

can't comment on potential future releases. If this matters a lot to you,
please just try it and
