[line-in.to.ogg]
hello, people!
could you advice me some kind of computer audio recording programme
to write music 'on-the-fly' from line-in sound card exit to ogg
vorbis file directly. for example, there is an 'absolute mp3
recorder', but i would like to record audio in ogg vorbis.

An Analysis of the c't Codec Test
...nd my entire CD
collection, encoded at the economical q=3.0 or less will become sick
sounding. So I kinda wuss out and just set q to 5-ish, so any difficult
to encode music has some headroom.

just an idea about quality evaluation
Hello
I had an idea about judging the quality of ogg vorbis
(or any other lossy codec)
I took a wave-file and encoded it to ogg.
Then decoded ogg to wav and inverted it's phase. When mixing the original
wav with the phase-inverted decoded ogg-file, any identic parts of compressed and uncompressed audio should be eliminated.
Of course there's always a "rest" of sound because

dynamic IPSEC: Holy grail sighted
Hi,
Thanks to some pointers from Christian Kratzer, I am now able to join the
office VPN from a random WiFi hotspot. With the configuration files changes
detailed below, from a public WiFi hotspot I can now use this 3 step
procedure to login to the office VPN.
1) While at hotspot, boot up my -STABLE laptop.
2) Insert wireless card.
3) "rsh server"
This procedure works for a DHCP

clipping off words inside a vector of strings
Hi,
I have a vector of strings (class character) with 6 elements (length
6). I call it 'names'.
"Graham Chapman"
"John Cleese"
"Terry Gilliam"
"Eric Idle"
"Terry Jones"
"Michael Palin"
And I want to turn it into another vector of strings called
'shortnames' with the same length.
The new vector should look like:

Is this just anti-Ogg FUD?
I was recently talking to a friend of mine who produces what's widely
referred to as "techno", music that's heavy on electronically generated
loops and effects, samples, and has plenty of bass.
He doesn't like ogg for a few reasons - he sent me a rather long email, and
I've stripped out the nonsense from it (he has some technically irrelevant
reasons for not liking

Sso the Linux way?
So I was googling around about this over the last week and here is what I
found:
nis/yp is for some reason bad.
Kerbos is holy, but no how-to's that don't involve windows and active
directory.
What is the recommended sso approach for centos? Where are there examples /
docs to follow?

Hotplug and Multipath routes = lost route
...; which uses the
inactive device instead of removing the entire default route.
Is there a way to tell the kernel to do that? Or to not remove
the route at all and just mark the "nexthop" with the inactive device
as dead and wait for it to come back alive?
Thank you!

success story: TE406P (quadspan with hardware echocan)
...;ve been running a PRI now for over a year with Asterisk (every single call
in and out is through two Asterisk boxes, including faxes) and while the
software based echo cancellation is more than adequate, we'd get the
occassional "edgy" echo and very infrequently get full-out "holy shit" echo.
So far the TE406 has eliminated that entirely.
Anyway as I said I just wanted to post here and tell the world that at least
as far as I have been able to determine, the extra cost of the hardware echo
can is *well* worth the money.

[OT] Linux/CentOS Volunteer or PT Work
...project using my broad
background of experience and learning a little along the way.
The main problem I see is that I only have 10-15 hours per week to give
this, as I have a full-time IT job as well, so flexibility on time of
day/time of week of work is key.
Thanks,
Nick
PS: Without starting a holy flame war, how do you all feel about the RHCE
exam? Other preferred exams? I know exams mean very little in comparison
to experience, but I feel without much "real world" experience on Linux it
may be a good start at getting the first gig...

RSpec 1.0.6 is the "holy cow, batman, it''s been a long time since we
released and there are a ton of bug fixes, patches and even new

introduced in 1.0.6 and a hiccup in releasing 1.0.7, respectively.

Remote linux auth vs samba4: winbind or nslcd + openldap.
I'm lost in documentation.
I setup a samba4 AD, and configured winbind so I can have local
authentification using pam, I can now login to AD users v?a ssh.
I want to achieve the Holy Gria of 1 source of users and password, for
both, linux and windows machines, but I'm lost in documentation.
So far I know:
samba4 cann't use openldap as backend.
samba4 ldap doesn't really is a full ldap.
samba4 provides uid/gid mapping using winbind or nlscd
So far, I'm using win...
