newbie: access model inside a model
Hi everybody, I''ve started to learn Ruby on Rails with the two books, of course I''m experimenting outside the examples in the book and walking against some things I didn''t learn yet. so here''s the question: Is it possible to access one model from within another? Actually I have a Many to Many relationship between tables and I''m trying to realize

Dispatch.fcgi h-e-double hockey sticks...
Hello Everyone ~ Last week I started having a dispatch.fcgi process go out of control on my Linux server. If I don''t catch it the process will eat my RAM, and devour my swap file until the machine becomes non-responsive. I am running Lighttpd and have not had any issues until lately. The logs are not telling me anything useful, and as a quick fix I am running the site using Mongrel,

OT: Aastra 57i configuration via TFTP problem
I am currently testing a 57i unit. No problems configuring the phone's config via phone/web UI. We are trying to avoid using the web UI, the reason is it will take a long time typing the softkey xml applications URIs on each phone, so we chose TFTP. Tried configuring the phone via a TFTP config server, but no changes took effect. I wonder why it doesn't work with TFTP even if I was able

Threshhold Models in gnlm
Hello, I am interested in fitting a generalized nonlinear regression (gnlr) model with negative binomial errors. I have found Jim Lindsay's package that will do gnlr, but I have having trouble with the particular model I am interested in fitting. It is a threshhold model, where below a certain value of one of the parameters being fitted, the model changes. Here is a sample: Cones:

fitting a hyperbola to data points
Hi, I am new to R, and I suspect I am missing something simple. I have a data set that performance data that correlates request rate to response times http://pastebin.com/Xhg0RaUp There is some jitter in the data, but mostly it looks like a hockey puck curve. It does not get converted into a straight line when I tried log conversions, so it does not seem to be a power series relationship. My expectation is that the data will fit a curve that is a hyperbola, but I don't know how to formulate that regression. How does one fit...

tcl problem with R-3.6.3?
No. I didn't do any of that and am now at a hockey game. But since I can't reproduce the problem after an Ubuntu online update and reboot, I assume the issue is moot. But I will check these things in an hour or so. On Sat, Feb 29, 2020, 3:24 PM Dirk Eddelbuettel <edd at debian.org> wrote: > > Charles, > > Did you try a bui...

Random Variable Generation
I am attempting to write a code that will generate a win probability for a hockey team. To do this, I have a code built that will generate a number of random variables between two standard deviations, and then weight them and add them together. However, when I attempt to assign this code to a variable, any time I use the variable, it will always give me the same numbers instead...

[JOB] Rails Web Developer in Madison, WI
Hello, My company is looking for someone familiar with Rails, but *really* familiar with front-end web development; CSS, Javascript (Ajax + +good), and one of the XXp templating languages. We''re migrating a rusty J2EE-ish app to Rails, and we need someone who can flip between controller work and view development with ease. Very relaxed, flexible work atmosphere--we value

piecewise regression using nlme function
...uous but not differentiable at the breakpoint? I used the nlme to generate a non-linear mixed-effects piecewise model with initial slope zero prior to an unknown breakpoint. It did give a 95% CI for the breakpoint. Thanks Erik whole model is complex, but here is the simple equation used: dr.hockey<-function(a,b,x,brk){ a+ifelse(x<=brk,0,b*(x-brk))} [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

question about nlme...
I am looking for R code to be able to fit a linear-linear piecewise model with person-specific changepoint. I have searched the web, but have not been able to locate any code. Below is my attempt at some code: chgpt = function(a1,a2,a3,gam,wave){ yht=numeric(10) y1=(wave <= gam)*(a1+(a2*wave)) y2=(wave > gam)*((a1+(a2-a3)*gam)+a3*wave) yhat=y1+y2 return(yht) } nl.dat <- nlme(y ~

Compiz 8.6 on openSuSE 11.0 -- Success! But need help with a few issues.
...onfig as a reference. If interested, the 8.2 config is here: http://www.3111skyline.com/dl/bugs/compiz/compizconfig-8.2.tar.bz2 The first issue I notice with compiz 8.6 was slow rotation when using the mouse to rotate the cube, cylinder, sphere and that the aspect ratio of the cylinder was more hockey puck like than usual. There were blurs or pixelations around the top edge of the cylinder that were noticeable as pixelation of the top 2 lines of the screen when switching faces with the keyboard and were readily visible in the screenshot of the cylinder: (45k - previously posted to the compiz li...

So I went to Fedora - but I got sick and tired of all these packages and daemons running that I did need for a "WHATEVER" server (many different). The amoount of stuff you cannot turn off w...

piecewise linear regression
...to do a piecewise linear regression with two pieces meeting at a common breakpoint. I think it is important that I don't specify the breakpoint in advance (although, if I get desperate, I'll do that). I've tried to fit a model in nls, several different ways (including using the "hockey stick" method described in http://www5.biostat.wustl.edu/s-news/s-news-archive/200004/msg00215.html) and I keep getting a "singular gradient matrix" error (sometimes the "initial" matrix, sometimes not). I also got the same thing with very simple artificial data (using a c...

small bug in 8.6 commands - grab key doesn't close after <Alt><Super><Sys_Req> + Other good feedback
...a cylinder on a new install, then the zoom needs to be set at 40-50% (.4000-.5000) to keep the cylinder from having the "In your face" look on rotation. The only other request I have outstanding is whether I can adjust the aspect ratio of the cylinder. In 8.6, it looks much more like a hockey-puck than a can. See the following comparison of 8.2 versus 8.6 screenshots: (8.2 - 100k) http://www.3111skyline.com/dl/img/ss/compiz/compiz82_shots-00.jpg (8.2 - 56k) http://www.3111skyline.com/dl/img/ss/compiz/comiz-darkredplanet.jpg (8.6 - 64k) http://www.3111skyline.com/dl/img/ss/compiz/cmpiz...

Prediciting sports team scores
I am working on predicitng the scores for a days worth of matches of team sports. I have already collected data for the teams for the season we are concentrating on. I have been fitting poisson models for football games and have worked out what model is best and which predictor variables are most important. We would now like to predict the probability distribution for the scores for each team.
