Limiting User Space on Samba Share
Hi,
Can someone tell me if Samba can limit users to certain amounts of space on
specified shares? If so, where would I go to find out how to implement it?
I have the following setup: RHL 7.2, Samba 2.2.3a using a Windows 2000 PDC
with Winbind. I want to be able to set a limit for each user on certain
folders/shares on the Linux box that they are accessing from Windows
systems.
Thanks,
Kevin

Run executable file
Is it possible to create an executable in unix, place it on a samba share,
and run it from NT.
i ran a little test putting "ls" in my samba share and tried double clicking
it to see if it would run.
my main goal is to create a batch file from NT that calls a script located
on a unix box shared by samba

cannot kill smbd processes
Hi there,
A customer of me still uses Samba 2.0.2 and it did work until know.
At the moment we are not able to stop the smbd processes and it is very hard
to gain access to the samba shares (only one user managed)
even when we do a "kill -9 " (noot recommended) the smbd processes are
available.
Does anybody have an idea how to solve this ?

Specific directory permissions
I need a quick rundown on creating directories that get group access.
I have a folder that I want everyone in the blswin32 group to be able to
read and write. I set force group to blswin32 for the samba share, but
it still gives me a n error opening the database. It is because I don't
have read and write access to the database file.
What settings do I need to make to get this to work

Symbolic links and SAMBA
Hi:
I am experiencing the following problem:
I have a Linux SAMBA server set up with a share containing the source
code for my RH Linux 8.0 kernel, which is on another machine. I have no
problems mounting or accessing the share on the RH client. The problem
occurs when I run the 'make' command, on the mounted share, (which
requires removing and re-setting a symbolic link

cleanup_recycle.pl problem (maybe OT)
Hi all
This maybe slightly OT, but I just noticed an interesting difficulty with
the cleanup_recycle.pl script that comes with 2.2.7a. I run it on a cron
job every night, deletes files and directories after 3 days. The trouble I
have is that some of my directory are named with spaces in them ie "Base
Maps" rather than a more proper "Base_Maps" The script really doesn't

Net Send?
Hello everyone.
Does anyone know if you can use Samba to send messages over the network
using Windows' Messenger service (which uses mailslots which are part of the SMB protocol - hence why I ask) in the same was as using 'NET SEND' on a Windows machine?
If the answer is no, does anyone know if there are any Linux programs around to do this?
Thanks,

Difficulties getting Windows 2000 and NT working with Samba on Redhat 8
Having set up the Windows clients and Samba (version 2.2.5-10) with a 'tmp' share the share cannot be accessed from the Windows clients.
On the Windows clients, after attempting to map a network drive to the Samba share using Windows Explorer the message
'No service is operating at the destination network endpoint on the remote system'
is diplayed.
I believe I have checked all

Re-Using Machine Names on Samba Domain
Hello, All!
I am a system administrator at a small company using Samba 2.2.7a as a
PDC on Red Hat Linux 7.3. Everything has been going fantastic, but now I
have to rebuild the secretary's Windows 2000 system and re-join the
domain with the rebuilt system using the same machine name as before.
What all do I have to do with Samba to get this to work? None of the
books I have, or the online

Samba and solaris automountd
Hello folks,
I have posted a message similar to this on the solaris list. I'm trying
to export a number of shares that are automounted under a common
directory, i.e, /prog. Under /prog, I have directories such as /prog/one,
/prog/two, /prog/three, /prog/four e.t.c; some of the directories are
from the same nfs server, others are from different nfs servers. The
beauty of automounting /prog

Samba permission settings ... Server 777 ... wks 755!?
I have one Samba share on my server (RH9). The permission on the shared
folders/files are set to 777. The owner of the files/folders is let's say X.
When I mount the share on my workstation (Mandrake 9.1) using the username,
uid and gid option (of user X) the owner of the files that I see at the mount
point is still X, but the permissions are now 755. Why aren't the
permission's

mask question
Hi all,
We are all using here a linux lan server with samba. We got unix and windows
clients but I have some troubles with unix clients.
I defined some shares with create mask = 0644. This works perfectly for
windows and linux clients but when I list files on the remote lan server
from my linux workstation, I don't see the real mask of the file. I always
see the mask 0644 ( even if the file

smbmount 2GB file size limit ?
Hi,
I'm running RH9 with kernel 2.4.20 and Samba 2.2.8a.
I can copy files larger than 2GB from Windows to Linux
and vice versa through Samba.
However, when I copy >2GB files from one Linux machine
to another (using smbmount to mount) I get "File size
limit exceeded" when 2GB is reached.
It looks like the problem is with smbmount.
Is there a 2GB file size limit with
