Way to go, CentOS team. Here's a hearty "thank you"!
Hello all, To the CentOS developers, beta testers, and all who were involved in a small or major way in the release of CentOS 5.4...thank you. Ignoring the peer pressure, even though it was out a little later than you (and many of us) wanted, you got it RIGHT. *That* is what was important. I yum updated from 5.3 to 5.4 with NO issues that I can speak of right now. Thanks to you fine folks,

[REL] Manage Fixtures 2.0.0
Just released a new version of the _Managed Fixtures_ plugin, previously known as _Export Fixtures_. The name change comes with some added functionality for managing the fixtures, primarily with two new import tasks for importing specific Models or all of them within the test/fixtures directory. Both new import tasks take the exported fixtures, and allow you to directly import one, or all of

Using openssh 3.1p1 on Solaris with tcp wrappers 7.6
Dear Open SSH and TCP Wrappers Colleagues, We are trying to use open ssh 3.1p1 on SPARC platforms under Solaris 2.8 using gcc 2.95.2, in conjunction with tcp wrappers 7.6 (IPv6 version). The wrapping of open ssh is not too well documented but I think we have figured most of this out (hearty thanks to Wietse Venema, Jim Mintha & Niels Provos for their helpful email exchanges) -- but have one

and life goes on
they say that deaths come in threes... for me, it was these: 1. scott wannberg, los angeles poet, one of my favorite performers 2. michael hart, founder of project gutenberg, icon and iconoclast 3. steve jobs, seemingly the only guy who made stuff work correctly i'm sure that for others, dennis ritchie is on their list, for his own trio: 1. c 2. k&r 3. unix godspeed to all

Duncan's retirement: who's taking over Rtools?
Dear dev team, I was sorry to see the announcement of Duncan about his retirement from maintaining the R Windows build and Rtools. Duncan, thank you incredibly much for your 15 years of devotion and your impressive contribution to the R community as a whole. Thinking about the future, I wondered whether there were plans for the succession of Duncan. Is it the intention to continue providing

Duncan's retirement: who's taking over Rtools?
I think that even though some Microsoft employees may have good intentions Microsoft as a company can not be trusted. There will be always a danger that they will try to create their own version of R which works only on Windows and that will become increasingly divergent from "other" R. We witnessed such (cursed in my opinion) attempts with their treatment of Java and Internet Explorer.

Duncan's retirement: who's taking over Rtools?
Likewise, a hearty THANK YOU from me and the rest of the team at Microsoft for all the work you, Duncan, have put into making R available for Windows users around the world over the past 15 years. I know it wasn't easy (Windows is not without its quirks), but R users everywhere, ourselves included, are deeply appreciative and have benefited greatly. The Microsoft R team is willing and able to

useR! 2004 program online
Dear useRs, the program for the first R user conference useR! 2004 (taking place in Vienna, May 20-22) is now available online at the conference web page: http://www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/Conferences/useR-2004/program.html We received many exciting abstracts about a wide spectrum of applications in which R is used. This is reflected in the program and I think we can look forward to a very

Autocorrelated error prediction correction
I have done a hearty search and so far and I have not been able to find the answer to my question. For a model with auto-correlated errors, when you run GLS or ARIMA and fit() or predict(), you get the unconditional fitted values, as opposed to the conditional or dynamic values. Or in other words, the correlation structure of the error is omitted. Most stat packages provide this as far as I know

pxelinux
Hi, At last found the error, i had my kernel, pxelinux.0, initrd inside the pxelinux.cfg directory. A hearty thanks to all you guys. That was real big help. I found the documentation a little bit confusing that's why it happened. Somebody else also had the same trouble as i found while searching the archives. I made a small patch, a simple diff to the pxelinux documentation

ACL Propagation problem
Using Samba 3.0.2a with acl support. My problem is as follows: When using the Windows ACL editor (security tab in folder properties) on a folder, if you set the check boxes for full control (or any combination or permissions) for a user, the Posix acl's are set for both the user, and the default user. This in itself is fine, because it causes newly created folders, and files to inherit

Great job to all who work on FreeBSD!
[ sorry for the cross-post, but both "camps" deserve this message ] A hearty "thank you" to all FreeBSD developers and a job well done! I've been "out of the loop" on FreeBSD due to utter busy-ness on the job and at home (along with general apathy for being in front of a computer outside work) for about 2.5 years now. I decided to finally upgrade one of my boxes

Duncan's retirement: who's taking over Rtools?
????? I concur with Moshe.? David and his team have done great thing for R, but a lion will not become a vegetarian.? I think that any reasonable reading of Microsoft's history will supports that perspective.? However, this is a fairly well documented phenomenon far beyond Microsoft.? Jean Tirole won the 2014 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics for establishing that, especially regarding

R-beta: patch 2
Perhaps I missed something obvious, but when I applied patch 2 and then recompiled R-0.49, I found that the objects such as glm.fit that were supposed to be updated still had their original definitions. After some hair-pulling, I remembered that patch saves a backup copy of the original files it changes. Because of the way the makefile for the system database is structured, both the new files and

cross-platform email client
I'm a Thunderbird user almost since day one, but now I'm looking for something else. For whatever reason, it doesn't work well for me - every once in a while it becomes non-responsive (UI completely frozen for several seconds, CPU usage goes to 100%) and I just can't afford to waste time waiting for the email software to start working again. My main desktop platform is Linux,
