host controller halted... scarry error
...or all I could see was this error message over and over again: "usb-uhci.c: host controller halted, trying to restart" I wasn't able to login or anything, so I saw no other solution than pressing the reset button. When it rebooted it forced a hdd check, but was unable to mount /dev/hde2 (that useually mounts on /var !) and pretty much nothing works without /var. The error message mount gave was something like "Unable to mount /dev/hde2: invalid argument". The files I was copying are located on /dev/md0 (raid 0 over 4 disks) and that still worked fine, / is mounted on /d...

CentOS 5 grub boot problem
...d. The originally posted partition map uses cylinders as units, not LBA. I missed that. Cylinder 1 is the same as LBA 63. And that is sufficiently large for a GRUB legacy stage 2. - OK this is screwy. Partitions 1 and 3 on both drives have the same number of sectors, but partitions 2 differ: /dev/hde2 401,625 975,691,709 975,290,085 fd Linux raid autodetect /dev/hdg2 401,625 1,952,491,904 1,952,090,280 fd Linux raid autodetect That can't work as these are two partitions meant to form /dev/md2 and need to be the same size. - Also, 401625 is not 8 sector aligned...

CentOS 5 grub boot problem
Please, download this. http://sourceforge.net/projects/bootinfoscript/ Run it: http://bootinfoscript.sourceforge.net/ Post a URL to the resulting file somewhere. I suggest having the entire computer assembled as it should be in normal use, rather than simulating device failure by removing a device. --- Chris Murphy

My server won't boot (grub looping - stage2)
...39;ve followed the manual ( http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/html_node/Installing-GRUB-using-grub_002dinstall.html#Installing-GRUB-using-grub_002dinstall) but now just keeps beeping with the GRUB fixed :) I have 3 IDE disks, hda, hde and hdg. My /boot is a raid device /dev/md0 of /dev/(hda2,hde2,hdg2). cat /proc/mdstat shows all disks online and active in the array. I have tried the grub-install --root-directory=boot --no-floppy hd0 (ou /dev/hda). With the same results. Ideas? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Installation problem, possibly RAID
I burned a DVD for CentOS 4.1. I booted from it and everything went fine for the graphical screen installation. I choose separate partitions for my /boot (hde6), / (hde9), and swap (hde12) areas. My /boot partition was ext2 and my / partition was ext3. I installed grub in my /boot partition successfully. I have a Boot Loader, System Commander 8.13 which controls the MBR. The installation then

Is RAMDISK required for domU boot?
Hi, I found one weird thing: I heard RAMDISK is not required for domU, but it seems I have to add RAMDISK to my domU config file, otherwiese the domU will hang up when it is booting. Please see the message below, the domU booting hangs up after "Continuing..." Does anyone have any clue for this issue? BTW, xen-friendly glibc is already installed. Thanks, Liang ---Begin of domU

Hi ! I'm trying to install Dragon Naturally Speaking in a WINE "fake windows" setup, and I have troubles with InstallShield. I tried this a while ago (with wine 20031212) and had *partial* success : The app installed, by I had trouble with the character set settings and botched the voice training, 'cause I couldn't read the screen ...
