whoops, corrupted my filesystem
...Not thinking (or RTFMing), I did a fsck on my partition-
which is the main partition. Now it appears that I've ruined the
superblock.
I am running Fedora Core 6. I am booting off the Fedora Core 6 Rescue CD in
order to try to fix things (my system isn't bootable.)
Doing a e2fsck /dev/hda2 tells me that the superblock is corrupt. When I
do a mke2fs -n /dev/hda2, it tells me that other backups are stored on

Missing 4.1 SRPMS?
I can't seem to find autofs-4.1.3-131.src.rpm on the download mirrors...
I notice that there are not many SRPMS in the 4.1 /centos/4.1/os/SRPMS
directory on the download mirrors - is this because most can be found
under /centos/4.0/os/SRPMS and /centos/4.0/updates/SRPMS? - or should
all the 4.1 SRPMS be in /centos/4.1/os/SRPMS ?
Thanks

Recover lost data from LVM RAID1

LVM problem
...a LVM, the "mount -t ext3" doesn't work.
I'm new to LVM ... could someone help me on this.
Also, there is a problem I found. Both HD have the
same VG called /dev/VolGroup00 ...
server:[root]/dev> pvscan
PV /dev/hdb2 VG VolGroup00 lvm2 [76.22 GB / 0 free]
PV /dev/hda2 VG VolGroup00 lvm2 [76.22 GB / 0 free]
Total: 2 [152.44 GB] / in use: 2 [152.44 GB] / in no VG: 0 [0 ]
where the /dev/hdb2 is the old one with bad sector ... and it's unmounted.
The /dev/hda2 is the root filesystem of the working CentOS 5.0

I have a 100G disk on an old redhat 7.3 system.
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda1 9.6G 2.4G 6.7G 27% /
/dev/hda3 99G 6.1G 88G 7% /home

I am trying to back that complete image up on my centos 5 system.
I can do the dd if=/dev/hda bs=1M | ssh root at machine 'cat > disk.img'
which gets me the whole 100G.
As you can see most of the disk is unused.
Is there a way to trim the resulting image to only be 10G inste...

Attempting To Recover, fsck infinite looping on me
...So I'm booting off of a FC2 disk 1 in recovery mode and trying to fix
the filesystem with e2fsck
The boot partition cleaned up fine.
The swap partition came back up when I did "/sbin/mkswap /dev/hda3"
and "/sbin/swapon -a"
I cannot, however, get fsck to run fully on /dev/hda2 (the main part
of the drive). I run it and it goes through the first few recovery
steps (1A, 1B, 1C), and then it comes to the problem.
It lists a bunch of inodes (like 150) and asks:
"Clone duplicate/bad blocks? (y)" I get about 6 of these messages
with varying lists of inodes.

Booting from the CentOS 5.2 Installation DVD (or the first

future reference, I would like to know what I did wrong, the past
couple of days, when trying to use the CentOS 5.2 i386 Live CD, for
rescue. From a terminal, "su -" did not seem to

getting ext3 on suse-7.3? (long post)
greetings.
i have been three days now trying to add ext3 to an existing suse-7.3
machine. i am using suse's own 2.4.13 kernel source.
here is what i have done:
following install, i ran tune2fs -j /dev/hda2 (also hda3 and hda4).
.journal files were created on each partition, apparently
uneventfully. wishing to avoid ai irreversable situation, i initially
edited /etc/fstab thusly:
/dev/hda2 / ext2 defaults 1 1
/dev/cdrecorder /media/cdrecorder auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0
/dev/cdrom /media/cdrom au...

Law). I have available to me:
(a) CentOS 5.2 i386 Live CD (I am running on that, as I write this email)
(b) Knoppix Live Disk, V.5.1.1
(c) SystemRescueCD V.0.2.15
The partitions on my hard drive, as shown by QTParted on the Knoppix
Live CD are now:
01 /dev/hda1 ntfs Active
02 /dev/hda2 ext3 (/boot)
03 /dev/hda3 unknown (CentOS LVM)
My belief is that /hda3 is not mounted. If I click on the "Local Hard
Drives" Icon under "disc" it only shows hda2 (the Linux /boot
partition). How and where do I fix that?
