[a bit off-topic] oggenc crashes my K6-200 box
I've noticed that oggenc reliably crashes my K6-200 box after a few minutes of
encoding. Has anyone else experienced crashes like this?
Surely it must be a hardward fault, or perhaps a K6 problem (this processor
has some errata). Still, I'm surprised that nothing else I do with it seems
to hang it.
Has anyone else seen anything like this?

performance counters
In order to be meaningful and usable together with other measuring methods,
their use in my opinion should impose as little overhead as possible. With that,
I wonder why per-cpu counters use atomic operations.
Thanks, Jan

Will MGE-UPS Ellipse USBS auto shutdown?
I have an Ellipse USBS connected via serial cable to a CentOS 3 box.
Do I need to turn off the UPS as the final stage of shutdown, or will
the UPS power itself off, before the battery reaches a level to low to
safely recharge from?
I notice there is the option for the UPS to turn itself off (and on
again) unattended if power is restored during shutdown, but there
doesn't seem to be an option

Couple of Questions for Australian Users!
...what
can and can?t be done with it and technology.
The questions i have is,
Are there people using it is Aussie?( I would say yes so prob answered
my own question ) :)
Hardware, is the digium hardware OK in australia? or does it require
changes/mod?s or is just a pain in the butt?
Alternate hardward for Aussie if above is an issues?
Resellers/Importers of the Digium hardware? I have looked at the website
and see that there are aussie resellers but they all seem to have their
own agenda and the one I spoke to was not intrested in selling me
hardware alone they wanted to do me a whole servic...

[LLVMdev] SLP vectorizer on AVX feature
Frank,
It sounds like the SLP vectorizer thinks that it is more profitable to use 128bit wide operations (because 256bit operations are double pumped on Sandybridge). Did you see a different result on Haswell?
Thanks,
Nadav

Enhanced Podcasts with Ogg Vorbis (Chapter Marks)
...ny media players and some hardware players support matroska, see [4]
- with e.g. VLC (or foobar) you see chapters and are able to seek in the
audio file - very nice!
- android 4 should support matroska natively [5] (but I don't think that
it's possible to see the chapters ?)
CONS:
- many hardward players, which support ogg vorbis, are not able to play
mka files
- I found no app on android so far which can play mka files
2) OGM Container with Chapter Marks
Using the same chapter.txt file, I created an OGM container with ogg
vorbis audio:
$ ogmmerge -o output.ogm audio_track.ogg chapters....

Squid ports to open

along with
"accept fw to net 443"
"accept fw to net 80"
I am unsure of any other ports that squid might need above 1000 to open and I of course want to open what is neccessary.
I also included all the hardward info for squid guru''s to tell me if I have any underated hardware for this.
Thanks

software Raid1 on centos3
how is the stability of software raid1 on a system running centos3.
i have 2 75gig hard drives that i would like to mirror if possible,
that being the reliability is worth it...there will be lots of network
traffic on the server. It will be used possibly as a file server,
it will most definitely be used also as a mail server and webserver.
i would be ok to me to not mirror the drives but this is

Issue with Steam after Steam update
...installed on my system.
I am using wine 1.4 (now), but have been running steam through a variety of versions. I have tried backing off to much older versions and it still does not work.
I have a friend with the same video card and OSS driver installed on a suse 12.1 box with other differences in hardward. After I discovered the issue I made sure to ask him to update Steam without making any changes to his box (just incase I had forgotten and I had made changes). He had steam running fine, it told him he had an update, he updated, and then same error.
The error about filesysystem.dll appears to be...

Current State of Theora Hardware

tasks that are necessary to have a Hardward implementation of Theora.
1 - Integration with a processor (Nios vs Leon)

We will need to compile the initial part of Theora in a processor and after
to do a integration with the Hardware modules. For this, we will need to

Any ideas to try?

watchdog network card
...watchdog timeout problems
and all my network card is down. Nothing can make the network card work
again (only reboot working).
There are only one service I need on this server and it'is nfsd (and rpc.* etc...)
It's dual-pro ML350G4 proliant.
What kind problem is it ? Software problem ? Hardward problem ?
What kind of solution you think ?
Do yo think if I go to no-SMP kernel the problem can be ... bypass ?
Regards.

ogg123 oss plugin plays garbage
I tried to use the current cvs version of ogg123 with oss output and the
ogg just sounds like static. I wanted to document it on the list in case
anyone else is having the problem. I can make ogg123 write wav files fine.
Also Vakor does not have any trouble playing oggs with ogg123, so I am not
certain what the problem is. I have tried compiling all of ogg vorbis

Samba process throttled back?
Hello,
We are running Samba 3.0.33 on a 2-node Linux cluster running RedHat 5.6 ES. Its primary application is to serve out a single network drive to support our business (out 350GB in size). For several years, this solution has been running flawlessly. File access was almost as fast as a local disk, so putting files on the server was never a problem. Our clients are running mostly Windows XP

know what is the status for CE certification.
Thanks for any input,

If you are running NetworkManager (the default), it's not too hard.
Here's an example
