Help: justification for Linux PDC vs Windows...
Hello, My IT department has implemented a samba PDC and now we are taking flack for it. Can anyone help me out with some good justifications for doing it this way vs the Microsoft way? Have a meeting about it in a short while... We wanted to do it because Linux is more secure and more stable. But there may be other good reasons and it would be good to know them. Or maybe...

subnet mask, gateway problem?
....x.x.152 SM = 255.255.0.0 gw =?x.x.x.190 I can access the internet BUT the clients/workstations cannot see SAMBA in Network Neighborhood. ? Is this attributed to the gateway not being the lowest IP??I don't know the rules for assigning a gateway number to a Lan. Any suggestions or constructive flack appreciated. Randy Kee? detect agfl count corruption and reset agfl
Hi there, My apologies if this is the wrong place to post this, but I was wondering if anyone had any information on whether or not the following patch has or will make its way into the CentOS Kernel? https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/10283095/ We are currently experiencing this problem with the latest version of CloudLinux (based on CentOS), so I believe it isn't currently included.

Perhaps the overwhelming feeling is patients' rights have priority over victims' rights. Ted Flack, spokesman for the Queensland Homicide Victims Support Group says the new Act provides a better environment for victims' participation, but there are serious flaws. The rights of homicide victims were not guaranteed and this caused an inordinate amount of distress....

...che' that takes this one step further and adds a > MySQL database backend to a PHP front. Thank you for these links. I have looked at them and neither of them seem to provide re-encoding on the fly. I suppose I should have been more clear about what I was doing but I didn't expect the flack. If someone else has something which will do what I am wanting I will greatefully use it. Although I pretty much have it working currently except for the questions in my first message. My system works thusly: Drop an index.html into a directory. When someone browses into the directory they rec...

Delays opening Excel/Word files off samba shares.
...e network (read samba) related. The application (in this case Excel) will just sit there waiting. If I copy the file from the samba share and place it on a local disk or another network share that is not samba based, then everything works as it should. As you can imagine, I'm copping a lot of flack because of this "upgrade" to "superior equipment" and I'm at a loss to explain why the delays are happening - I have done a log level 5 and looked through, but can't find anything significant to figure out what the hassles are. A log level 10 is not really possible with...

They're stuck in the .ra format, which I personally think sucks rocks. MP3 has a lot of flack surrounding it these days, as well as the problems that the RIAA doesn't like, such as being able to save a stream and stuff like that. Will a vorbis stream be able to be saved? Is it possible to somehow lable it private, such that it won't be able to be saved? Morality of the RIAA asi...

Playing flac files from external hard drive
Hello, I have a 500GB external hard drive with a lot of music in flac format. I would like to find a way to play music directly from the drive through a portable player. I do not own a portable player at the moment and intend to buy one that can support the above requirement. What I don't want to do is copy files across and remove them every time I want to listen to music. Is there a way to

Exactaly, I would recommend the mod_mp3 project for something like that. http://media.tangent.org/ They are doing almost exactaly what sound like you are looking for. There is also the project 'ampache' that takes this one step further and adds a MySQL database backend to a PHP front. JStanley --- >8 ---- List archives:

Windows XP and MP3
if ya' haven't seen it already, check out: http://www.canoe.ca/MoneyWSJ/wsj2-dow.html ad, sad, sad. on many fronts. I don't begin to understand how this might work; I suppose the MP3 degradation only applies to MS encoding software... *shrug* this may, however, provide a good leveraging point for Vorbis. have fun dongoodman
