OT: IAXModem in inittab causes modem to be unres ponsive, running from console it's OK
faxguy, maybe you can tell me why As I've noted in previous posts I'm evaluating HylaFax with IAXModem. When I run iaxmodem and faxgetty through a console the modem works 100% I have yet to find a fax that it won't tie up with. When I run IAXmodem and faxgetty in initttab, the modem is extrem...

spandsp 0.0.3 RxFax fax reception crashes bristuffed asterisk 1.2.13
Hi Last month, people reported a crash with Asterisk 1.2.13 and spandsp-0.0.3 when receiving a fax using fax detection. Today I've tried 1.2.14 with the latest spandsp 0.0.3pre27 and with the snapshots for app_rxfax.c and app_txfax.c. The problem still happens. Has anyone found how to resolve this issue? I tried emailing Steve Underwood (with crash backtrace) but he hasn't

faxdetect questions - Please HELP!
I'm using IAXmodem and Hylafax with 'faxdetect=incoming' and things mostly work pretty well. My main lines come in via T1 DID. Today, HR got tired of having someone read and forward their faxes to them and requested we bring their physical machine back on line. I have been able to get the fax forwarded to the appropriate zap channel, but I cannot seem to get it to stop

problems with hylafax + iaxmodem + asterisk1.8.5
Hi! from 2 days I'm trying to run hylafax server and iaxmodem with Asterisk 1.8.5. I have 2 computers in the lan, one is the Asterisk PBX and the other is the server with hylafax and iaxmodem installed. In Asterisk I set up an IAX trunk in this way: ___________________________ iax.conf [iaxmodem] type=friend context=outgoing-fax disallow=all allow=ulaw username=iaxmodem secret=password

How does Vonage support fax machines?
My boss is insisting we support fax, and I keep telling him that Fax over IP is very unreliable and not recommended and his immediate come-back is "Vonage does it." and it's very hard to figure out how. I don't think Vonage does T.38, the Linksys/Sipura units they're using doesn't support T.38 to my knowledge. That means they have to be using G.711Ulaw to send faxes.

I've broken voicemail
I went to put in the new sound files over the weekend, but forgot to backup the custom folder and lost my custom digital receptionist files. I then had to copy the old files back from a duplicate machine. The problem is now though that voicemail just hangs up when I dial it. Other apps work - *70 for example gives me 'call waiting...activated' so I know it's accessing the files

FXS or VOIP
Hi I am setting up a phone system for a small office. The office will have 5-8 phones and a fax line. There are 4 hunt lines coming into the office. We have made no hardware purchase yet. Being an asterisk newbie, before I suscribed to this list I just assumed that I would buy voip phones and connect all the phones to a private ethernet network. However, I see many people inquiring about FXS

slow samba sharing
Hi. I was hoping to search the archives, but I can't find them anymore... Situation, we had been using Quickbooks via mapped drives to Windows shares, and that was fine. We moved the Quickbooks data files (shared) to a samba share, and it works, but it seems EXTREMELY slow in functionality. Any clues? I'm using PIII-733MHz, RedHat 6.1, kernel-2.2.16, and samba-2.0.7 The smb.conf

server is busy errors
I have samba running on an IP MASQ/forward system. It serves as the internet gateway for a small workgroup. I'm having a couple of problems that I'd like some help on if anybody can... First, and most disturbing, when the internet connection drops for some reason (which I have tested with DSL and "wireless" LAN), the server machine gives "busy" errors to the Windows

allowguest defaults to yes for SIP
In your sip.conf file allowguest defaults to yes. This means that anyone that can reach the SIP ports on that system has access to make unauthenticated calls, by default. The administrator actually has to go in and turn it off to prevent unauthenticated SIP calls (in whatever context [general] points at). Does anyone else agree with me that this is a poor default? I'd like to see the

RPM upgrade question
I upgraded my samba package on my RedHat 6.1 installation via RPM. I used the samba-2.0.7-20000425.i386.rpm file. I had to first uninstall the packages: samba-common-2.0.5a-12 samba-client-2.0.5a-12 because of package dependencies. I'm guessing, then, that the samba-2.0.7-20000425 package includes the files that had been included separately with the common and client packages. Is this

Samba + Quickbooks file problems
I updated samba to samba-2.0.7-4 (RedHat RPM). That didn't help. I changed the file ownership to user.group from user.user. That didn't help. I changed the file permissions to -rwxrwxr-- as you had suggested, and then it worked. (QuickBooks 99 needs *both* the file permissions set as noted *and* the ownership also.) However, when everyone closes QuickBooks the QBI file is deleted, and

writing an MDA, help me avoid corrupted indexes
Hello. First, I want to thank those responsible for Dovecot IMAP as it was a real treat to implement in comparison to my mostly-failed attempts with Cyrus. The passwd-file authentication was exactly what I needed as I really didn't want to have to deal with PAM or LDAP but where I am setting up a server with virtual accounts. I'm using Postfix as an MTA, and it quite handily passes
