I have a MS Exchange server. I'd like to install a samba server
for the users.
Does someone know if MS Exchange can validate users in samba ?

...I found from
samba. When I update a file the modification time is set
wrong. When the file is created it does right.
It doesn't happen if I set the timezone to GMT.
Before I had tried with GMT+1 , WET , MET.
The server and the client are syncronized.

Password authentication
hello:
i am fairly new to samba and i read some of the documentation and i have a book
on bamba, but somehow i can't figure the following two things out:
(i have the precompiled redhat 6.0 version of samba)
1. i simply want to authenticate a user with his/her unix account password. i
do not want to use the sama user or password file, since i cannot keep track of
the changes.
2. i want to

solaris 2.6 printing
I have ran across a problem
that I cant resolve and no one else seems to either. I recently built
solaris 2.6 on
an ULTRA 1 Sun Box. I retrieved compiled and installed samba 2.0 from
their web site
I compiled with gcc and everything works well except for the printing.
Samba does deliver a file in my /var/spool/smbprint dir but nothing happens
from there no matter what lp or other commands I

XP slow with samba-2.2.7 from RH 7.3
I'm having problems with one Windows XP working with a
samba server.
This is redhat-7.3 with latest samba-2.2.7-3.7.3. There are some
windows 98 PCs running fine. There is two Windows XP clients, and
one of them isn't working well with samba. The user complains the
access to the files is quite slow.
the log of this PC grow a lot. One of the entries that
happen more is this one:

Re: samba Digest, Vol 7, Issue 34
Make sure the XP box's firewall is disabled for the network connection
you're using to connect to the samba server (advanced properties of the
network connection).

Many processes per user
I have a samba server that starts creating a lot
of processes for each connected user, until it
renders the system unusable. Then restarting samba
solves it all.
The last time it crashed I saw 10-12 processes
per user. The number of processes keeps growing until
we restarted samba.
Right now it's working but I see there are 25
of smbd from root. That wasn't happening before.
I recall

diskless windows
Hi. I wanted to set diskless win95 but I read the list archives
and I decided not to do it diskless.
So I tried diskless windows but I got a problem.
I do this.
1.- I did booting images with bootware proms.
2.- I managed to install DOS clients from microsoft. That was painfull
because the one I downloaded from MS didn't connected to
my samba server. I used a dos clients that creates a NT

ugly messages in log.smbd
Hi. I have a samba server SunOS 5.6
This is samba-2.2.2, some times some users get slow
responses from the server, and the other day we had to
restart the computer. I found this in the logs.
Any hints about what is happening ?
I'm starting to prepare an upgrade, but its a bare
server and it'll be a hard job to install a compiler
and all the tools for building the latests sources.

many smbd processes by root
I have problems with a samba server. It's almost stable
since the last upgrade, but there are many smbd processes
owned by root, instead by the user.
This is a RedHat-7.3 server. There were many smbd processes
running, I once saw almost 50 for the same user. This was
growing untill we had to restart samba.
I also tried to build the samba-2.2.8 rpm but it was too
unstable in this system.

Windows XP slow with samba-2.2.7 from RH7.3
Hi.
I posted last week a question about a network with some XP PCs.
One PC connects fine to the samba server, but the other one
is quite slow, almost unusable. There are also Win98 hosts
running fine.
Someone kindly answered he had the same problem, and solved it
upgrading to samba-3 beta. I can't put beta software on this
server.
Do I have any other option ?

cached logons
Hi. I can't do cached logons in our new samba server.
I had a dead crashed W2k server quickly replaced by samba-3.
That meant create a new domain, restore backups and add all the
PCs to the domain. It was impossible to ressurrect the old MS server.
Anyway I'm facing a problem about cached logons. There is no way
to make it work. I've been reading all the entries in the mailing
list
