Rshaper Weirdness
...control the bandwidth usage, here are the details, 1. Our production servers are all Redhat 6.2 with Kernel 2.2.19-6.2.12, the software we use are customized specifically for RH6.2, so I can''t upgrade to 2.4 kernel. 2. On my test server with the same RH6.2 and kernel (it has a sigle Intel EtherExpress NIC), I compiled the rshaper.o module and modified the network driver (eepro100.c), make modules, install the new eepro100.o, and went through insmod rshaper then rshaperctl 192.168.1.10 10000 10 It''s a single NIC on an internal network (192.168.1.0/24) It was able to control the incomin...

pxelinux in Asus P55T2P4
Hi, as a new user to pxelinux I'm having trouble booting an Asus P55T2P4 from an Intel Etherexpress Pro card with PXE bootrom. I'm using pxelinux 2.04 (tried 2.05pre2 as well) with a Redhat 8.0 kernel (2.4.18) and ramdisk image (for pure testing purposes). The Mainboard I use is a P55T2P4, Rev. 2, newest Bios 0207, 80MB Ram, PCI VGA card and the EEPro. dhcp, tftp work fine, pxelinux loads...

OT: NIC
Folks, I'm trying to add a network interface card to my SUSE 9.3 box, and I'm not having much luck with a US Robotics version. What manufacturer do any of you use in your machines--either 10/100MB or GigE NIC? Thanks Eric Hines There is no nonsense so errant that it cannot be made the creed of the vast majority by adequate governmental action. --Bertrand Russell

Samba swamps the server's CPU
Hi. I'm running Samba 2.2.2 and Linux 2.4.7 on a dual PPro-200/256KB server. The relevant NIC is an Intel EtherExpress PRO/100+. The problem I'm having is that certain programs will swamp the server; the load will spike immediately to 50% (i.e., 100% on one CPU) and performance will, naturally, bite. Having another active connection to the server at the same time causes _monster_ slowdowns. I didn't thin...

It is the current file server and is backed up daily with smbclient. I had client problems with Win98 clients with samba v3.0.10,11 and 12 during this testing, b...

recent stability problems with fxp driver
I've spent the past four days or so updating machines here to 4.8/9-stable via cvsup, and have done a complete make buildworld/kernel on each machine (some SMP, some single processor). It seems something is broken with the latest fxp driver, on each machine (different mobos and hardware configs) heavy network traffic with fxp NICs causes timeouts and random kernel panics. nnamp question
Hi: I have a machine with four interfaces connecting four different networks. I am learning to use nmap and trying to force the nmap working only one interface. As nmap man page states, I use -e option and it would not work: nmap -e fx0 -v -sP 192.168.128.0/23 Starting Nmap 3.95 ( http://www.insecure.org/nmap/ ) at 2006-02-04 14:04 CST getinterfaces: Failed to open ethernet interface (el0)

[Bridge] Linux bridging code bounces back frames?
Hi, I'm trying to build a bridge using a 486DX2/66 with two 10 Mbit Ethernet NICs. The machine (tsushima) is running Debian stable and kernel 2.4.26. Previously I used it as a router, so I know the hardware (NICs) is working. The NICs are as follows: eth0: WD80x3 at 0x280, 00 00 C0 0A 2C 2F WD8003-old, IRQ 10, shared memory at 0xd0000-0xd1fff. eth16i.c: v0.35 01-Jul-1999 Mika Kuoppala

Just to anticipate questions, whenever the TDM04b was tested, the power connector was in fact connected. An Intel Etherexpress Pro 100 ethernet card was tested on Machine A to verify that there was no problem with the slots. The eepro100 initializes and operates perfectly. Attached to this email is a copy of the kernel's configuration, and a list of currently loaded modules is as follows: Module Siz...

PCI ethernet card for CentOS
I need to get a second ethernet card for my HP Proliant CentOS server, to attach a LinkSys WRT54GL router to. I see that there are many Realtek RTL8169S gigabit cards going for a song on eBay. Is anyone using one of these under CentOS? Do they work OK? (I used to have a couple of Realtek cards - not gigabit - and they worked fine.) Or does anyone have a strong recommendation for other cards? Any

TCP/IP Slowness (was win98 vs win95 with TCP/IP)
...an't remember exactly what it is, but it is something like "TCP No Delay". No other optimisations were made. This whole simplex/duplex thing with cheap ethernet cards seems to be a common problem. It may be worth your while to invest in a top quality ethernet card, such as the Intel EtherExpress Pro 10/100 You might like to check out http://www1.tpgi.com.au/users/eirvine/hermione/hermione.html Anyhow, let me know how you get on.
