R 3.1.2 for Debian jessie/testing available on CRAN
Thanks Johannes to clarify this point. It makes more sense to me now. So I
understand that the idea is to make it simpler without apt-pinning for less
adventurous people (I mean normal people :)): just add jessie-cran3 repo
and you're good to go.
Am I also correct that jessie-cran3 is essentially a backport of Debian
SID, with some (short?) delay? In other words, modulo a couple of days,
R-related stuff should have the same version with both approaches? (while
Debian Jessie is only updated from time to t...

Now, I'm not sure to understand the benefit of using the CRAN repository
for Jessie?I feel like I'm missing the point. I understand that these are
backports from Debian repositories, so I guess that jessie-cran3 is
probably synced with Debian-SID from time to time, right? (which means it
is essentially the same, with maybe a slight additional delay)
After a quick check of essential packages (in the Debian and R sense) for
me, I found out that Debian-SID is always the best choice, providing the

The repository for jessie is in the works - but don't expect it to be up
before next weekend.

clean wheezy, R intrigue, squeeze-cran3 requires liblzma2?
...ight brackets in plotmath. Anybody see similar trouble while reviewing
demo(plotmath)?
This is a completely clean, fresh install. I've not installed any peculiar
libraries or packages, except R, the installation of which still puzzles
me.
I configured a CRAN mirror for packages using squeeze-cran3 folder, and
that's where the first funny thing happened. I noticed same when R-2.15.3
came out, but I thought I had this trouble because my system was all junked
up with unusual libraries. But now, on a clean system, I get this error,
which indicates I need a package liblzma2, which does not...

I use this repo :
deb http://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/debian wheezy-cran3/

Could you help me to fix this issue ?
Thanks a lot,

Unable to install R 3.2 on debian jessie
Hi everybody
I try to update R 3.1.1 to R 3.2.2 on a Debian Jessie (8.2) server. I
try to do the following steps :
- Adding "deb-src http://cran.irsn.fr/bin/linux/debian jessie-cran3/"
to /etc/apt/sources.list
- Execute :
$ sudo apt-get upgrade
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install r-base r-base-dev
- And I get this :
...
r-base is already the newest version.
r-base-dev is already the newest version.
...
If i execute : apt-cache policy r-base

Problems Updating R version on Debian testing

R installation problems on Linux Mint 18.1 via jessie-cran3
Is there a reason for jessie-cran3 rather than xenial? For Linux Mint 18 (admittedly
not 18.1) I have
deb https://cloud.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu xenial/
as one of the apt entries.

That sounds good. I just modified the instructions to R-devel and used
a more "Kurt-like" naming convention:
1) sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://stat.ethz.ch/CRAN/bin/linux/debian jessie-cran3/
deb-src http://stat.ethz.ch/CRAN/bin/linux/debian jessie-cran3/
2) sudo apt-get update # => fails, but note the number of the missing
public key; then do:
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-key
<NUMBER> # <NUMBER> = number after NO_PUBKEY
3) Build depende...

Upgrading 2.15.3 to 3.0.x on Debian Squeeze?
...ave been installed with aptitude and some with
install.packages(). Now I'd like to update R to 3.0.2 (I upgraded arm
to a version that requires 3.0 :-( ), and I'm a confused.
- http://cran.us.r-project.org/bin/linux/debian/ seems to say I just
change the sources list to point to '...cran3' instead of to '...cran'
and then update / upgrade. Yet
http://cran.r-project.org/bin/windows/base/rw-FAQ.html#What_0027s-the-best-way-to-upgrade_003f
(admittedly for Windows) says to uninstall and reinstall R. Do I
follow the cran -> cran3 update approach, as I'm on Li...
