c2d4u: apt sees new package version as a downgrade
...ced a strange thing when attempting to upgrade a specific package (lavaan) from c2d4u and wondered if someone could confirm the problem. In short, apt seems to think that an older version from the "universe" repo is higher than the newer version from c2d4u.
When I do
apt-cache showpkg r-cran-lavaan
I get the output at the bottom of this email. Then, I tried to force install the 0.6-13 version using
apt install r-cran-lavaan=0.6-13-1cran1.2204.0
and apt warned me that I was downgrading the package. I am wondering whether it is because universe has a period between "6" and &...

When I installed r-base, apt-get wanted to remove all my previous

Suggestions to improve the info page of /bin/linux/debian
After Johannes set up the CRAN repository for Jessie, I had quite some
trouble figuring out what any user should do to have a running and
up-to-date R in Debian (particularly Testing). Part of the problem is, I
think, the overwhelming documentation on the page "DEBIAN PACKAGES OF R

http://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/debian/.

successfully,
but ran into errors while also upgrading r-recommended packages. I was
able to
fix that using apt-get install -f

Installation woes for rattle (and other packages)

To avoid the issue of local setup being in conflict with R, I created a VirtualBox
instance of a clean Ubuntu Jaunty. Same woes. To be really sure of things, I put in a
virtual Debian lenny from debian-503-i386-netinst.iso
Since the Ubuntu cran2deb attempt gave same results as Debian lenny (though the CRAN
repository was a little different, but cran2deb repository the same), I'll only include
the Debian run. I also tried the install on a separate machine (real) running 8.04 Hardy
and got a similar broken packages message. So simila...

suggested earlier. Again, I tried to be correct to the best of my
knowledge, but I may not be entirely accurate.
I simply edited (and formated the file) using Emacs, and manually added the
TOC and other suggested modifications (notably r...
