Enhanced Podcasts with Ogg Vorbis (Chapter Marks)
Hello list!
Since it is more and more common these days to create enhanced podcasts
(= audio files with additional chapter markers [1]), I am searching for
an alternative to the currently used MP4 format.
ID3 also puplished an official standard for chapters [2], but nobody
seems to use and support it.
Now I am trying to get something similar with vorbis audio (and maybe an
additional container).
So far I am aware of the following possibilities:
1) Matroska Audio with Chapter Marks
Using the matroska container, it is possible to generate a matros...

Chapter Numbering in Hieraki
I''m using Hieraki to do some documentation for RubyGems. So far I''m
lovin'' it.
But I have a question. I currently have three books on the site. It
seems that the chapter numbers continue from one book to the next. For
example, the first book has 7 chapters (numbered 1-7). The second book
has three chapters, but they are numbered (8-10) rather than the (1-3) I
expected. (The table of contents in the left hand margin has the correct
(1-3) numbering.)
Is this a bug, or some strange functionality I don''t understand.
(And is there a better pl...

Sweave / Latex per-chapter output
...91.html)
What I would like to do, is to be able to get 2 types of output with
the same code (I'm lazy ;-) ):
1. my large report in a single PDF file, for printing out and distributing
2. a PDF and HTML file *per chapter*, for displaying on our website
and allowing people to download individual chapters
I have tried the following things:
- see if pdflatex has an option to split PDF output per chapter; as
far as I see, it doesn't
- separate the Sweave file into chapter parts. The problems here are
1) that I do a certain number of R preparations (variables setting,
table querying) which are dat...

Feedback about Vorbis Comment Chapter Extension
...go we discussed about the Vorbis Comment Chapter Extension:
http://wiki.xiph.org/Chapter_Extension
I got some critics about this specification, especially from the VLC
developers:
see https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/6895
Some parts of it:
<cite>
This specification allows holes between chapters and allows overlapping
chapters... And does not explain what to do in those cases.
This specification allows hierarchical chapters without defining correct
titles (DVD/BD) or editions (MKV).

Also in the VLC forum

video chapters and subtitles in ogg containers
I'm trying to create files that contain a video stream, one or more
audio streams, subtitles, and DVD-like chapter information.
ATM, I use ogm containers that can handle all this. But although ogm
is supported e.g. by xine (including chapters), it seems to be an
unofficial hack. Is that correct?
I'd like to move to ogg containers, since ogm doesn't support theora
videos. My final goal is one file containing theora video streams,
vorbis audio streams, chapters, and subtitles
Looking into the ogg docs, I found capabilities to ha...

Chapters
I'm surprised this isn't a FAQ, but I searched all over and could not find a
reference to it.
Chambers (1998) makes repeated references to "Chapters" in S (e.g., p. 6),
but I can find no reference to "Chapters" in R. Since Chapters were not used
in earlier versions of S, I'm wondering if R uses them or not. If it does,
how does one get them to work? I've been unable to do so.

New book: Beginner's Guide to Zero-Inflated Models with R
...zero-inflated models consist of two distributions ?glued?
together, one of which is the Bernoulli distribution. We begin Chapter 3
with a brief revision of the Poisson generalised linear model (GLM) and
the Bernoulli GLM, followed by a gentle introduction to zero-inflated
Poisson (ZIP) models. Chapters 4 and 5 contain detailed case studies
using count data of orange-crowned warblers and sharks. Just like all
other chapters, these case studies are based on real datasets used in
scientific papers.
In Chapter 6 we use zero-altered Poisson (ZAP) models to deal with the
excessive number of zeros...

Comment Header - Chapters
Basically I'm looking for DVD like chapters to point to locations
within the file. I'd prefer this over having multiple ogg files.
Useful for long files, eg from live recordings, interviews, stories,
plays and so on. I was thinking something along the lines of;

comment[x+1]="CH...

Review of Black, Ruby for Rails, Chapter 4
...but now that I''ve done the first three, I feel like I
ought to continue.
I should mention, though, that doing this isn''t being very fair to the
author. It''s wildly unlikely that he ever anticipated someone doing this
and no doubt didn''t expect the individual chapters to be evaluated
one-by-one in that manner. Hopefully the fact that these reviews bring up
the book repeatedly in this forum will be worth it. Besides, so far I really
like the book. :-)
Chapter 4 begins the second part of the book, which is all about the details
of the Ruby programming languag...

video chapters and subtitles in ogg containers
Hi,

Would you mind expanding on what chapters are, and what you'd expect
to be able to do with them ?

Review Request: Samba-3 by Example Update
...ver the next 48 hours I hope to complete this
process.
Today I have added a new chapter to the Samba-3 by Example book (the
Samba-Guide). within 24 hours all mirror site should be hosting the current
update.
I would very much appreciate review of the new chapter 8 and the rearrangement
of the chapters over-all. The rearrangement is in response to requests I have
recieved.
I need to know the following:
1) Does the new arrangement of contents make sense?
i.e.: Does it seem logical? If not, what should be changed?
2) Do the new Update and Migration chapters satisfy the demand for better
docum...

all the time. So, the querying is done maximum 1 time, while the file
reading and variable setting is re-run for each chapter, which doesn't
seem to be a problem (performance-wise).
- In my master tex file, I include the different chapters. If I want
to generate PDF for only a single chapter, I cannot use the
"\includeonly" directive, because I will always need to run "pre"
first, and then the chapter I want. So, I just comment out the things
I don't want to run.

problem building dvi and pdf documentation on Darwin 10.2.6
I just installed R-1.7.0 on Darwin 6.6 (a.k.a. MacOS 10.2.6).
'make' and 'make check' run without any problems. 'make info'
builds with no complaints, but 'make dvi' and 'make pdf' fail.
I get refman.dvi and refman.pdf OK (with some warnings from
pdftex that some names are referenced that do not exist), but
R-FAQ.{dvi,pdf} fails as shown below. Attempts

serializable_hash and serializable_add_includes
I''m trying to write a helper method similar to attr_accessible but
instead it will be used to whitelist which attributes are available for
serialization (attr_serializable). My first attempt at this was to
override serialized_hash and modify the :only option to include nothing
but serializable attributes. I''m facing a problem when nested models
are ''included''
