centos 4 installed on P4 won't boot on P3
Hi, I installed centos 4 on a P4, configured it (and it booted fine here) then sent it to the DC to be put in a P3 but it won't boot, displays GRUB and halts. The DC guys tried grub-install in rescue mode but still the same. Any clues? Is there some difference between P3 and P4? thanks tom

Gentoo users: Please test eix cache-freshness patch
Good day, all, bangert on irc wrote a patch to ensure the eix''s cache exists before querying it. I''ve extended this to verify freshness based on /usr/portage/metadata/timestamp and /usr/bin/eix itself. If you have a moment, I''d love for someone to test the patch. It''s against HEAD, but should apply cleanly against 0.22.4.

Group "None" after synching to a windows machine?
Hi, I'm using cwrsync with rsync 3.0.8 atm and after syncing a file to Strato HiDrive and back to the local machine the new permissions contain this entry: None (UK-DT-01\None) with Read, Execute; Read and Write (allowed) permissions. It takes a few seconds before this entry is displayed with this name, in the meantime it is only a sid (and the user icon has a red question mark in the

Use "advanced recording", it records "what you hear" then. It also streams silence and won't disconnect when it doesn't get any data it could stream. icecast2 comes with a reference config file that is easy to u...

Centos for Interested Children
Today, an enthusiastic 10 year old boy asked me about Linux. I thought of telling me to go to centos.org but then realised there is nothing on centos.org for complete beginners to Linux or for children. If anyone has the time, energy and interest, perhaps a basic technical introduction to the Centos version of Linux would be a good long-term objective. Let's catch the children's

multiple auto attendants
Hi I was given the task to try and build a VOIP solution to an office building with multiple tenants in all sizes and shapes. Some of them will require auto attendants and some will simply want direct lines to their phones. The question I have is: Can asterisk be configured to handle multiple auto attendants? TIA Paolo

2 asterisk servers, how to connect them together?
Hi... I have what is, I am sure, a relatively common & straightforward problem (no, NOT that kind of problem!)... I'm trying to hook two asterisk servers together so I can make a "distributed" PBX. Here's the scenario: [MASTER] is in the office. It has unrestricted access to the internet, and a fixed IP address. It has 3 SIP hardphones configured & working, plus a

PRI for Data and Voice
Hi, Currently I only have 1 PRI which I am using for dial-in customers. The line is connected to a Portmaster3. I have never used more than 10 concurrent channels. The calls can be both analog or ISDN. It would be a waste to order another PRI for my Asterisk box. Is there any way of splitting a PRI into 2 PRI's of 15 channels each, or plugging the PRI into the * box and it send the data

PuppetReporting
hi I''ve read about PuppetReporting at the Trac website. Apparently you are working on integrating the benchmark tests for every type in ruby. Do you have any idea when this will all get implemented? This is a crucial part (and actually a necessary feature) in the configuration management system we have set up using Puppet. grtz Koen Vereeken

I just set up svn and did a checkout. When I set up the repository, I did an import of the entire base directory of the rails application which was great because it allowed me to do a checkout on to my computer with everything. OT: Creating documentation using a web interface
Hello all, I would like to document some things I am doing with asterisk, but would prefer to do this from a web interface. I am unfamiliar with any software that allows you to create online documentation from a web interface. Ideally I will be able to create documentation online from a browser, which then when saved, is immediately ready to be read online. Perhaps I can setup different authors

Hi: Saw this in Edupage today. Grrrrrr. Geoff. From: EDUCAUSE <educause@EDUCAUSE.EDU> COPY-PROTECTED CDS QUIETLY SLIP INTO STORES Macrovision, in coordination with several major recording labels, has for several months been piloting new technology to prevent music consumers from copying CDs onto their PCs. The technology distorts CD recordings with a series of audible pops and clicks
