How to use a reserved word in italics in an expression
Dear R-helpers,
> label2 <- expression(paste(italic(attraction function:), 'slope'))
Error: unexpected 'function' in "label2 <-
expression(paste(italic(attraction function"
How do I tell R that in this case I don't want 'function' to be
treated as a reserved word but as a string in italics?

Drumming up publicity for Sketchup on Wine to attract more testers...
Sketchup seems to be working pretty well, so I just posted
http://digg.com/linux_unix/Google_Sketchup_7_working_in_Wine_1_1_11
to see if I could attract some real sketchup users
to find more bugs.
If you think that's a good idea, please digg it
so it can show up on the front page.
Thanks,

try to bind samba traffic to specific interface - without success
Hello,
tonight my home samba server attracted my attention because i had seen
that the complete
traffic (copy user->server / server->user) goes via eth0 and not how
specified in smb.con
via the eth2 interface.
i tried to bind it like this:
*interfaces = lo eth2
*
in smb.conf ... any idea?
best regards

Shorewall 4.4.6 and Multiple ISP with 2 routed subnets
Hello,
I have 2 ISP uplinks (zones: inet1 and inet2), each with a fixed IP on the outside and a routed subnet (/25 and /26) on the inside. So, behind the firewall i have 2 networksegments (lan1 and lan2) with public IP-addresses. The segments are completely isolated from eachother: hosts in zone "lan1" connect only to "inet1" and hosts in zone "lan2" only connect

[LLVMdev] Oversight group for LLVM
Hello everyone,
The LLVM project has evolved significantly since our first public
release in Oct. 2003. Most importantly, we've gained many new users
and several active contributors, and we want to encourage and support
them and attract more. At the same time, the software itself has
undergone some significant changes and improvements, and been ported to
new platforms. We expect that

R's documentation
Sometimes I get confused with R's documentation. It seems the documents is not maintained and updated well. Anyone has similar feeling? I don't mean to offend anyone. I hope R would get better and better. But documentation is really one very important factor which could attract people coming or drive people away.

Probably.
The fact remains that booting was attractive, and now it isn't.

Lmer plot help
Hello all
I'm running the lme4 package on my binomial data, and I'm happy with the
model and the resultant plot. However, I'd like to plot my table data, which
has: two IVs, and one DV. You can see an example below, where 'attractive'
= question (IV), male = condition(IV/predictor) and no/yes = answer (dv).
I'm using the table to investigate what questions act differently

Axis/Ticks/Scale
Dear All,
Apologies for this simple question and thanks in advance for any help given.
Suppose I wanted to plot 1 million observations and produce the command
plot(rnorm(1000000))
The labels of the xaxis are 0, e+00 2 e+05 etc. These are clearly not very
attractive (The plots are for a PhD. thesis).
I would like the axes to be 0,2,4,6,8,10 with a *10^5 on the right hand
side.
Is there a

[LLVMdev] Preferring to use GCC instead of LLVM
Oh another thing, consider this question that some people
will be asking: Why not use GCC to do what LLVM does, and
skip the hassle of using LLVM entirely?
ESPECIALLY considering that LLVM cannot be used without GCC.
Even if you are using LLVM as a back-end only, for compiling
LLVM bytecode only, GCC is still required to convert the
"llc" output assembly .S file into a

[LLVMdev] Oversight group for LLVM
Hi OG,
I think it first of all would be nice, if we could supplement this group
with a discussion list on this topic. The reason for this isn't to ad more
bureacracy, but to present public ideas and visions to a broader forum and I
belive in that the more elaboration within a broader forum the better the
ideas will get and the more people will get committed to start and finish
the task.

producing output as *.spo (spss output format)
Dear All
I am considering moving from SPSS to R as my stats environment of
choice. I have read around and everything looks favourable. There is
just one issue on which I have been unable to find information.
Many clients ask me to send them output (tables, graphs, etc) as an spss
output file (ie .spo). I haven't asked them why, I've just said yes. I
know R can produce graphics as

thoughts on tripp lite Smart Online UPSs?
We're looking at replacing some old APC SmartUPS 5000s with something
that has USB so NUT can more easily talk with it (and yes, I've tried
USB-RS232 adapters and every one I tried started kicking out errors
within a few hours).
One of the bids we have is for a "Tripp Lite UPS Smart Online 5000VA
4500W Rackmount 5kVA 200V/240V" as the potential replacement unit. I

Linux and Windows servers? Here are my requirements:
SNMP trap collection, ability to import custom MIBs
isup/isdown monitoring of ports and daemons
Server health monitors (CPU, Disk, Memory, etc)
SLA reporting with nice graphs
Pager/Email/SMS alerts with groups, filters and escalations
Built-in MTBF and MTTR reporting

NHW Project - some update
Hello,
I don't have advanced on the NHW Project this past month, but I have
definitely validated its characteristics and this new version.
The NHW Codec preserves or enhances image neatness and sharpness, which
translates that on good quality images the NHW Codec is globally better
than HEVC, and on degraded (with blur, artifacts) images it is worse than
HEVC because it lacks of precision. I
