Installing CentOS on RAID PATA not SATA - A8V
I'm trying to install CentOS 4 on an A8V on the PATA/Raid drives on the Promise controller. The Promise controller is recognized (sata_promise), but the PATA drives are not recognized. Base on this thread https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=147303 it seems that there is a patch which was merged in 2.6.11 to get pata w...

Centos 4.4 install on ASUS A8V-VM does not find SATA drives
Yes, I know someone last week asked a similar question (Problem with ASUS P5VD2-X X SATA II) but the only answer I saw on that thread was the equivalent of "I've heard it's bad so I won't do it." Unfortunately, that doesn't help me much. The BIOS does indeed recognise my two SATA hard drives, and I've got the BIOS set to "IDE" (which disables

Lan Kernel Problem
I'm building a Linux box to act as Proxy/Router/Firewall. I'm using CentOS 4.5, with an "old" motherboard (Asus A8V-X), and two Ethernet NIC, based on a realtek chip, that's widely supported under 2.4 and later kernel (the cards were functioning excellent in another PC whit Fedora Core 1). CentOS detects the on board LAN, but not the other two, in fact, knoppix 5.0.1 doesn't detect too (kernel 2.6.17), b...

Why WinME/XP boot disk doesn't work with MEMDISK
It appears that the WinME/XP DOS boot disk links code into the INT 15h AH=87h "mover" function which crashes the system DELIBERATELY (it puts the system in a cli/hlt/jmp loop.) I first thought it was specific to MEMDISK, but it's not; calling this function under just about any circumstances from within this version of DOS seems to crash the system hard. It's possible

OT: HOWTO: Create a 90mbit bonded link 600 metre s away with Cat 3 or telco wire [long]
...PCI Ethernet cards http://www.blackbox.com/Catalog/Detail.aspx?cid=425,1423,1424&mid=4946 RJ-12 crimper RJ-12 6-conductor plugs (will work with RJ-11) SOFTWARE: CentOS 4.1 or any Linux distro that supports bonding and bridging 1. Install hardware on both machines In my case, I used an ASUS A8V with an Athlon XP 3000+ with 4) 3C905CX cards. The reason I selected this board was because there is 5 avaliable PCI slots. Install the cards 0-3 in slots 0-3. 2. Disable onboard hardware Because the NIC's will require an IRQ each, disable the following resources: a) Onboard NIC b) Onboa...

help ith burncd (Input/output error, 6.1-RC, plextor PX-740a)
I have a new system which includes a Plextor PX-740a DVD+-R/RW CD-R/RW drive attached to an Asus A8V-MX motherboard. When I try to use burncd to burn a cd, it writes all of the data, says "fixating CD, please wait.." and then reports burncd: ioctl(CDRIOCFIXATE): Input/output error Oddly enough, the CD seems to be usable. I can successfully burn the same file if I use cdrecord. The...

powerd not behaving with an Asus A8V-MX and Athlon 64 X2 3800+
I have an Asus A8V-MX motherboard with an AMD Athlong 64 X2 3800+ CPU and I'm trying to run powerd to keep it cooler/quieter/greener. I'm running -STABLE (6.1-RC) cvsup'ed a couple of days ago, with a kernel config that consists of the SMP sample plus an atapicam device. I'm loading the cpufreq.ko m...

Logwatch for postfix
On CentOS5 with the latest updates applied, the logwatch filter for postfix returns way too many lines from the log. I get an "unmatched entries" message and all messages that have gone through the system is listed. Here is an example: 8F930A8092: to=<morten at foo.bar>, orig_to=<morten at localhost>, relay=local, delay=0.19, delays=0.06/0.01/0/0.12, dsn=2.0.0,

Printing Issues with NT type Clients.
Hi. To begin with, I have a freshly built RedHat Linux 8.0 box running samba 2.2.8a. The kernel version is 2.4.18-14. I downloaded and compiled samba from source. I am using LPRng-3.8.9-6 as my printing system. The attached printer is a Lexmark Z22 printer and it is attached to the parralel port. Problem: For the life of me, I can't get NT type clients, NT4, 2K and XP to print to samba.

Debian Squeeze hangs with kernel 2.6.32-5-xen-686
Hi all! After upgrading to Squeeze, I am watching a Xen VMHost that after a while it hangs. This did not happen when I was using Xen with Debian Lenny (in this case as with Squeeze, the Xen components are from Debian repositories). In each case I connected a keyboard and monitor to the computer and the screen remained black without answering any key. This problem seems to also affect domUs,
