Time to lock down v1.1?
...zaptel, codecs, etc. The add-on folks are obviously also
having problems keeping up with modifying patches to a constantly moving
target, and applying those to Stable is fruitless.
I'd even suggest that no v1.2 Head be created until such time as the
majority of bugs are fixed, and that souce _then_ copied to whatever
the next version is going to be called.
All in favor?

Deleted symlinks when receiveing files with the same name
Hi list,
I would like to know if the following rsync's behavior can be
changed/modified.
I noticed that when rsync receive a file for which the local filesystem
already has a symlinks with the same path/name, it _first_ delete the
symlink, _then_ it start the transfer.
I think there are two problems with this approach:
- it completely ignores the content of the symlinked files, which can be
used to speedup the transfer;
- if the transfer goes interruped/stopped, the receiving side remains
without the symlink and without the to-be-receive...

One DHCP/PXE config for BIOS, EFI32, and EFI64 clients?
Dear all,
I'd like to have a DHCP/PXE server for different arch of clients, i.e.
BIOS, EFI32, and EFI64 clients.
As described here:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=720589
What Daniel has proposed
(http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=720589#10) should
work, i.e. Using a file called pxelinux.cfg/bios containing the

Suggestion for big files [was: Re: A comment about R:]
...did not need to be very large for being too large.
SPSS had a feature that was then useful, about the capability of
sampling a big dataset directly at file read time, quite before
processing starts. Maybe something similar could help in R (that is,
instead of reading the whole data in memory, _then_ sampling it.)
One can read records from a file, up to a preset amount of them. If the
file happens to contain more records than that preset number (the number
of records in the whole file is not known beforehand), already read
records may be dropped at random and replaced by other records comi...

Installing
I have skimmed through many web pages, how to''s and editorials, my
final conclusion is that the programming language for this particular
part of the program is going to be Ruby.
There are many reasons:
1. Apple will support it in 10.5
2. There seems to be a lot of support for it in the Mac community
3. Ruby developers seem to be Mac people.
4. There is better documentation than

variables in templates
Here''s the problem I''m trying to solve.
I use apache, for lots of things, some of those things are configured from a
performance standpoint differently.
In less vague terms I need to be able to change the MaxClients setting to
different things based on the different purposes apache serves. (say proxy
vs. app)
Under previous CMS/templating engines I would have a httpd.conf that

computing the radius of an arc
Hi!!
I am interesting in computing the radius of an arc that best approximates a curve. Is there an R function that I can use to draw an arc?
Nothing useful came up when I searched help.search. Does anyone have any suggestion to do this?
Thanks ../Murli

Malicious Linux modules
As halflife demonstrated in Phrack 50 with his linspy project, it is trivial
to patch any system call under Linux from within a module. This means that
once your system has been compromised at the root level, it is possible for
an intruder to hide completely _without_ modifying any binaries or leaving
any visible backdoors behind. Because such tools are likely to be in use
within the hacker

3.0.1p1 losing tty modes?
Hello,
openssh-3.0.1p1 appears to transmit and parse tty modes correctly,
but later in the code it uses vhangup() to close all tty references and
reset the tty to default modes. I don't think that vhangup() should be
needed on Unix98 ptys, possibly not even on BSD ptys, and I am probably
wrong, so please tell me where. Of course vhangup() clears all tty modes,
so you need to save them

...n pxelinux.cfg/default.
So, keep using the same method you used in previous versions, instead
of selecting the Syslinux cfg / firmware from the DHCP snippet that
Daniel posted.
If you actually get to pxelinux.cfg/default (as you probably used to
when you were not selecting a specific machine), _then_ you choose
the firmware.
Try something similar to the following (I haven't tested it myself).
# pxelinux.cfg/default
