Confusion about 32 vs 64 bit jre
I ran a yum update yesterday and got the new kernel and other goodies, and I've rebooted and all seems to be well. Except, I just tried to run Firefox for the first time, and it wants a new jre (6.16). Now that's fine, except that I have a recollection of needing the 32-bit jre the last time I did this, but that's not working. I'm pulling down the 64-bit version, but I'm

[LLVMdev] -fplugin-arg-dragonegg-enable-gcc-optzns status
Current dragonegg svn has all of the -fplugin-arg-dragonegg-enable-gcc-optzns bugs for usage with -ffast-math -O3 addressed except for those related to PR2314. Using the -fno-tree-vectorize option, we can evaluate the current state of -fplugin-arg-dragonegg-enable-gcc-optzns with the Polyhedron 2005 benchmarks compared to stock dragonegg and stock gcc 4.5.4. The runtime benchmarks below show that

Simple AR(2)
Hi there, we are beginners in R and we are trying to fit the following time series using ar(2): > x <- c(1.89, 2.46, 3.23, 3.95, 4.56, 5.07, 5.62, 6.16, 6.26, 6.56, 6.98, > 7.36, 7.53, 7.84, 8.09) The reason of choosing the present time series is that the we have previously calculated analitically the autoregressive coefficients using the direct inversion method as 1.1, 0.765, 0.1173.

Problem with fitdistr for gamma in R 2.2.0
Dear R developers, I have encountered strange behaviour of fitdistr for gamma in recent R build i.e. 2.2.0. I have attached the code for data at the end of this mail so you can reproduce the problem. In short, I am able to run fitdistr under 2.1.0 without problems, while I get the following error under 2.2.0 (Version 2.2.0 Patched (2005-11-15 r36348)) > fitdistr(otm, "gamma") Error

I am wishing to write my own random distribution simulation function using C programmin language(for speed) via R. I am familiar with R programming but somewhat new to C programming. I was trying to understand "Writing R extensions" -guide and its part 6.16, but I found it hard to understand(http://cran.r-project.org/doc/manuals/R-exts.html#Standalone-Mathlib). HELP! Excel and R give me totally different regression results using the exact same data
Hallo, I am totally confused why Excel and R give me totally different regression results for the data below. If you know the solution, please enlighten me. In Excel I used LINEST() and Data>Data Analysis>Regression and both (fortunately) gave the same result. The coefficients were: /b0=1.16, b1=0.957, b2=0.024, R2=0.0027, adjusted R2=-0.017/ In R I used

[LLVMdev] -fplugin-arg-dragonegg-enable-gcc-optzns status
Hi Jack, thanks for these numbers. Can you also please measure compile times? I'm thinking of enabling gcc optimizations by default, but I don't want to increase compile times, which means choosing a value for the -fplugin-arg-dragonegg-llvm-ir-optimize option that is low enough to get good compile times, yet high enough to get fast code. It would be great if you could play around with

help for segmented package
Hi, I am trying to find m breakpoints of a linear regression model. I used the segmented package. It works fine for small number of predicators and breakpoints.(3 r.v. 3 points). However, my model has 14 variables it even would not work even for just one breakpoints!. The error message is always estimated breakpoints are out of range. Since my problem is time related problem. So I

lbfgsb from C/C++
Hi, I would like to call R's lbfgsb function from my C/C++ code by including R_ext/Applic.h and linking against libR. Currently, I am allocating memory for x (and the other input arrays for lbfgsb) in my C/C++ code via malloc/new. However, this gives a segmentation fault when executing the program. I tried to allocate x via PROTECT(x = NEW_NUMERIC(n)); x_p = NUMERIC_POINTER(x);. This compiles
