different behaviour with ubuntu or with slitaz
Hello, I am a teacher and I use educational softwares that do not require installation. Here's an example: http://artic.ac-besancon.fr/svt/act_ped/svt_clg/troisieme/defenses/defenses-immunitaires-3eme.zip My problem is that most of these software work relatively well under slitaz with wine version 1.2.3 but not on ubuntu10.04 with the same version of wine. I have display problems. With ubuntu, when in run the .exe in xterm, i get this: Code: frv at frv-desktop:~/Documents$ wine defenses-im...

Help in Overlaying of 2 Plots on the same Device.
I'm trying to overlay a density plot on a previously plotted histogram. However, i need to use the same axis as of the 1st(histogram) plot to plot the second. My second plot is creating its own axis and causing my plot to extend the entire histogram instead of getting a subplot on a portion of the histogram. I tried 'fig' and 'new' parameters with no luck. Thanks in advance.

Hosting a R Graph Gallery?
Dear R users, Following some of the recent questions and discussions about the R plotting abilities, it occurred to me again that it would be very valuable to have an R graph gallery. Eric Lecoutre made a very nice example in: http://www.stat.ucl.ac.be/ISpersonnel/lecoutre/stats/fichiers/_gallery.pdf It would be very useful to many beginners, but probably also advanced users of R, to have an

plot color question
Thanks again Andy and Uwe for you help on my previous post of ploting lm coef and means. With your direction, I was able to expand and generalize the function to meet my requirements. Follow up question: Is it possible to make the points different colors depending on which quaderant they fall into? The data frame contains two variables (x and y) Quad 1 = x>mean(x) & y>mean(y) would

Clustering in R
Is there a command to get cluster criterion for the cluster methods? SAS has its criterion, but I prefer to do it in R. If there is not a command is there code to produce criteria to choose the number of clusters? plot.default and open ended limits
Hi, I would like to bound the lower limit of my y scale to zero, and let R chose an upper limit. Something like plot(x,ylim=c(0,)) or plot(x,ylim=c(0,na)) but nither of these do the job. I searched the docs, but I can't see a way to do this. Naturally its nothing I can't do 'by hand', I would just like to know if a correct syntax exists.

contour and filled contour plots
Hello, I'd like to remove color bar from "filled.contour" plot. Is it possible and how? I also want to overlay "contour" plot on filled.contour but due to scaling of the "filled.contour" to account for the color bar, aspect ratio for "contour" is different from "filled.contour". Can this problem be solved? Thanks, Mark

plot smooth density estimates for bivariate data
Hi, there. Suppose I have a bivarariate data matrix y1 and y2. I want to plot a 3-D picture of the estimated density f(y1, y2) against y1 and y2? How can I do that? Do I use persp() or density()? Partial structural Change in STRUCCHANGE PACKAGE
Hi, I am using the Strucchange package in R to test for structural change in regression coeffcient. Given a model y = b0 + b1*X + b2*Z, the Fstats test whether there is a change in both b1 and b2 over a time period. Is there any way where I can restrict the test to hold b2 constant and test for break in only b1? That is, instead of a pure structural change, could I test for partial structural

Putting different colors on labels in plot (hclust)
Hi All R-helpers This is my first (but probartly not last ;-) mail to R-help, so hello to everybody. My problem: Is there a way to give colors to the labels (sample labels) in plots for a hclust object for better visualization? I have looked through plot, points, hclust and more but cannot find anything on label color. Anybody know if this is doable? Best regards Jeppe

combination of scatterplot and image graph
Dear R users, I'm interested in a combination of a scatterplot and an image graph. I have two large vectors. Because in the scatterplot some areas are sparsely and others densely populated, I want to see the points, and I also want their color to be changed based on their density (similar to a heat map). Is there a function that can do that? Thank you, b.

adding perspectives to existing persp plots
I've created a perspective plot using 'persp' in the graphics package. I'd like to add a second plane of z values to the existing plot, but I cannot seem to do this using 'persp'. Is there an analogue to 'lines' or 'points' for perspectives? Corey. corey.bradshaw at cdu.edu.au

list(0) to integer
Hello I've another question :-) I would like to transform a list to a integer. I must be sure that the number entered by the user is an integer! Thus, I've made : repeat{ cat("Effectif des populations (integer):") n<-scan("",n=1,what=list(0),quiet=TRUE) if (is.integer(n[[1]])==TRUE) break print("L'effectif des population doit etre un entier")

subsampling
hi, I would like to subsample the array c(1:200) at random into ten subsamples v1,v2,...,v10. I tried with to go progressively like this: > x<-c(1:200) > v1<-sample(x,20) > y<-x[-v1] > v2<-sample(y,20) and then I want to do: >x<-y[-v2] Error: subscript out of bounds.

How to convert a list to a matrix
Hi Sorry to ask such a basic question. I have a list, each element of which is a vector of two values. What I actually want is a matrix with two columns, and one row per element of the list. Obviously I have tried as.matrix(), and as.vector() but I didn't expect the latter to work. I feel so lame asking this. Any suggestions? Mick

Fw: Contour plot
I understand that I need to have a (in this case) square matrix with all the data. But the question now is; - can the contourplot not interpolate the missing values or alternatively - I have fit a model to the z data (z = 100 + 0.5x + 0.5y). How can I make from this model a "square" matrix z to make a contour plot? Kind regards, Darius Blaszijk ----- Original Message ----- From:
