ASUS WL-100W PCMCIA Wireless NIC
Hi everyone,
Any chance I can get the card[1] in $subj to work under CentOS 5.1 ?
The only thing I get in dmesg when inserting/removing the card, are
messages from pccard:
--- dmesg ---
pccard: CardBus card inserted into slot 0
pccard: card ejected from slot 0
--- end ---
When inserting, no new network interface becomes available, so I assume
it doesn't recognize it. Any way I can get it to

Questions about Eaton 5E 1, 100W 2, 200VA 6-Outlet UPS
Thank you for the help.
Unfortunately Eaton's website is a nightmare to get concrete data,
software, or anything else out of. The reputation for the quality of their
components and the compatibility for NUT alone is what white-listed the UPS
as a selection option.
The source code is enlightening; they're actually controlled/fed back via a
bi-directional serial over USB terminal? I

...does have a notable voltage delta.
Are there any other tests I can perform or ways that I can help gather data
to get the longer tests supported?
I borrowed a 60W light bulb (instead of one of the new weird ones that
stores are now selling to drive people to just try an LED light).
For the 1100W/2200 VA 5E model a 60W light registers as a ups.load of ~2
(clearly truncated; I guess this correlates to approximately floor((100 *
60)/2200))
It took me a while to remember that I needed to configure upsd.users and
use a completely different command ( upscmd instead of upsc ) to interact
with th...

The "test.battery.start" command takes a parameter in seconds (defaults to 600):

...file ="Arvin12Map.png",
maptype ="mobile")
PlotOnStaticMap(MyMap,lat =datas$LAT,lon =datas$LON,
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? axes =TRUE,mar =rep(4,4))
When I run this on my computer the horizontal axis ranges from 300W to 60E, but the ticks in between aren't linearly spaced (300W, 200W, 100W, 0, 100E, 160W, 60W). Also, the vertical axis moves linearly from 300S to 300N. It seems that no matter what data I supply for datas, the axes are always labeled this way.
My question is:
1. Does this problem occur on other machines using this code?
2. Does anyone have an explanation for it?

Yes, my experience with Belkin has been that their hardware and

Disconnect the computer from the UPS, connect a dummy load (like 2-3 * 100W tungsten light bulbs) , turn off the nut client on the computer. Start a stopwatch. Unplug the UPS from mains and wait for it to die. Read the value on the stopwatch.

ups.delay.shutdown clarification
A client of mine has an APC Back-UPS 350 model (USB connected). His
office had a power incident yesterday, where there was an interruption
of about 30 seconds. During that time, the server shut down. As soon
as it went on battery, the daemon initiated a shutdown. In checking it
today, I see the ups.delay.shutdown setting is -1. I tried to adjust
it, but could not do so.
What does the

System with MGE UPS shuts down too early
OK. I'll try it, but it really puzzles me how the battery could have
gone bad for just 15 months. The online power is pretty stable, so the
battery hasn't gone through many charge/discharge cycles...

Telephoning Announcements -- Suggestions?
In the subdivision where I live, we have a well that time to time has
problems. Currently, our trustees call me, I take a message, and
then call the people on our "phone calling tree" and give them the
message. They, in turn, pass the message on to the rest of the
residents.
We have a few problems with the way this works -- people don't bother
to relay the message, or,

Question about Tripp-Lite UPS life span
Hello,
Somewhat off-topic, but seeking some input from other tech folk on this list. I have a Tripp-Lite SMART 2200 (a white tower that looks similar to, but predates the black SMART2200NET) that just failed its monthly battery test so I bought new batteries and replaced the old ones. Sadly once put back together, plugged in and enabled it did not power up--no lights, sounds, smoke, etc. I took

choosing a UPS (in the United States)
I do a bunch of "kindness of strangers" hosting in my basement and my
three kVA apc unit died recently. In looking around, it looked like
Belkin was a reasonable low-end replacement for a few machines. Then I
read this mailing list after I purchased one and was gifted another. It
looks like people don't like Belkin. ;-)
So the question is what's a good UPS for running
