Thanks. I figured out that there is no Debian packages because nobody builds them... So let me ask another question: Why there is no interest in building Samba? There must be some reason for that. Fedora 22 as example has Samba 4.2.x do you want a LTS distribution or bleeding edge software you can't have both at the same time

There must be some reason for that.you still don't get it Debian has a policy to not change the version number for most software but only backport security and critical bugfixes, not only for samba PHP Version 5.3.2-1ubuntu4.28 do you really think this is just plain PHP 5.3.2? no it is not - it was built on Oct 29 2014 11:55:11 with recent backported fixes while 5.3.2 was released on 04 Mar 2010> Am 28.05.2015 um 04:45 schrieb Andrew _: >> There are no Debian / Ubuntu repositories available with recent Samba >> releases. >> What is the reason for this situation? > > because nobody built packages? > Fedora 22 as example has Samba 4.2.x > > do you want a LTS distribution or bleeding edge software > you can't have both at the same time-------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... We have got into a nasty spot with combinations with the system Heimdal and our changes to support password lockout, and I essentially asked the debian packaging team (of which I'm a part) not to ship until we untangled that. The work to go to an internal Heimdal is also non-trivial however.
