samba - May 2008 - unable to compile samba-3.0.28a on Fedora 9 i386

I downloaded samba-latest.tar.gz from the samba website, extracted it, 
went to samba-3.0.28a/packaging/RHEL and ran sh makerpms.sh but during 
the compile process, it errors out with:
