Help please. I am in the process of configuring Samba 3.0.14a onto 4 AIX 5.3 systems. It seems to be working OK on 3 of the 4, but on the last one, I cannot start smbd. nmbd seems to start fine. The smb.conf file matches the other servers except that the server name is changed. Here's the error showing up on the log.smbd file. [2007/05/02 15:19:47, 0] smbd/server.c:main(835) standard input is not a socket, assuming -D option [2007/05/02 15:19:47, 0] lib/util_sock.c:open_socket_in(708) bind failed on port 139 socket_addr = 0.0.0.0. Error = Address already in use I'm hoping someone with network experience has seen this kind of error and can point me in the right direction to resolve. I did a "netstat -a | grep 139" but didn't see anything using port 139. Ben Burruel Sr. Systems Manager Metrics & Mainframe Capacity Planning San Diego (858) 886-3363

Try adding the -n switch to search for 139. Also, 3.0.14a is rather old. Hi all, In 2005, me and another system administrator, we started to implement SAMBA for a big company(our client). The oly miss on that version was the ACL support. Tow weeks ago, we tried to upgrade to a new STABLE version 3.0.24 and we encountered some WINBIND problems (see Re: [Samba] Option valid user not expanded for groups). We returned to the first build from 3.0.20b. We installed binaries for the specified link and after 3 hours of winbid mappings errors we gave up and returned to the first build from 3.0.20b. After two weeks of waiting for an answer to our problems regarding non mapping domain users we felt that samba lists is too busy to solve developed *NEW* things than helping STABLE APPLICATION. :( What is happening whith this product?!? Hopping to see a stable product... some day. ----------------------------- FlorinT ----- Original Message ---- From: William Jojo <jojowil@hvcc.edu> To: "BURRUEL, BENJAMIN D (ATTSI)" <bb1787@att.com>; samba@lists.samba.org Sent: Friday, May 4, 2007 4:01:59 AM Subject: Re: [Samba] cannot start smbd on AIX 5.3 Ben, ---- Original message ---->Date: Wed, 2 May 2007 16:11:18 -0700 >From: "BURRUEL, BENJAMIN D \(ATTSI\)" <bb1787@att.com> >Subject: [Samba] cannot start smbd on AIX 5.3 >To: <samba@lists.samba.org> > >Help please. > >I am in the process of configuring Samba 3.0.14a onto 4 AIX 5.3 systems. >It seems to be working OK on 3 of the 4, but on the last one, I cannot >start smbd. > >nmbd seems to start fine. >The smb.conf file matches the other servers except that the server name >is changed. > >Here's the error showing up on the log.smbd file. > >[2007/05/02 15:19:47, 0] smbd/server.c:main(835) > standard input is not a socket, assuming -D option >[2007/05/02 15:19:47, 0] lib/util_sock.c:open_socket_in(708) > bind failed on port 139 socket_addr = 0.0.0.0. > Error = Address already in use > >I'm hoping someone with network experience has seen this kind of error >and can point me in the right direction to resolve. >I did a "netstat -a | grep 139" but didn't see anything using port 139. >139 is in /etc/services as netbios-ssn. Hi Jeremy, In other words another cheap answer like: we can't afford to document how you can do it becasue we are too busy to develop new candidates. Don't bother anymore I'll will choose probably to BUY a stable program that can do the job and have at least one support guy that is really support that. No more words to say.... There are plenty of people to chose from, so take your pick. A mailing list isn't the place to get a known response time metric.> What is happening whith this product?!? > > Hopping to see a stable product... some day.Do you download and test the release candidates ? Do you report bugs and help us track them down ? Do you set up test systems and learn how to report segfaults and other issues ? If not then I'm afraid I'm just going to ignore your complaints. Free Software helps those who learn how to help themselves. It's not "free" as in cost. If you don't want to do any of this then purchase a support contract from people who do.
