Hi, we are running cups as print service on a single server. This server is also running samba to export the printer for the windows world. However sometimes we get the following messages on the samba file server. At this time the cupsd is still running, but not accessible. So looking at the status of the cupsd is not helpful. Two questions: Whats going on with the cupsd ? Why is samba stopping completely(!!) working, when the print server is not available ? How can we avoid this ? ANY help is welcome... Thanks and bye, Peer Here are some lines of the samba file server log and some version infos: Nov 3 11:34:44 ostia/ostia smbd[15524]: [2006/11/03 11:34:44, 0] printing/print_cups.c:cups_cache_reload(85) Nov 3 11:34:44 ostia/ostia smbd[15524]: Unable to connect to CUPS server print.bgc-jena.mpg.de - Connection timed out Nov 3 11:36:05 ostia/ostia smbd[20090]: [2006/11/03 11:36:05, 0] printing/print_cups.c:cups_cache_reload(85) Nov 3 11:36:05 ostia/ostia smbd[20090]: Unable to connect to CUPS server print.bgc-jena.mpg.de - Connection timed out Nov 3 11:36:57 ostia/ostia smbd[14868]: [2006/11/03 11:36:57, 0] printing/print_cups.c:cups_cache_reload(85) print server information bella:~ # uname -a Linux bella 2.6.5-7.202.7-default #1 Tue Nov 29 14:32:53 UTC 2005 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux bella:~ # cat /etc/SuSE-release SuSE Linux 9.1 (i586) VERSION = 9.1 bella:~ # rpm -qa | grep cups cups-1.1.20-108.31 cups-devel-1.1.20-108.31 cups-drivers-1.1.20-60 cups-drivers-stp-1.1.20-60 cups-SUSE-ppds-dat-1.1.20-98 cups-client-1.1.20-108.31 cups-libs-1.1.20-108.31 ####### samba file server infos ostia:~ # uname -a Linux ostia 2.6.5-7.253-smp #1 SMP Tue Feb 14 11:11:04 UTC 2006 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux ostia:~ # cat /etc/SuSE-release SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 (x86_64) VERSION = 9 PATCHLEVEL = 3 ostia:~ # rpm -qa | grep samba yast2-samba-client-2.9.17-1.3 samba-3.0.20b-3.4 samba-client-3.0.20b-3.4 ostia:~ # rpm -qa | grep cup cups-1.1.20-108.26 cups-client-1.1.20-108.26 cups-libs-1.1.20-108.26
