samba - Jun 2006 - "Not Enough '\' Characters In Service" Error Message

When I do

smbclient -L -N prodwww
or
smbclient -L -N \\prodwww
or even
smbclient -L -N //prodwww

I get an error message

Not enough '\' characters in service

I have tried to find this error message on the samba web site but I have not 
been successful in finding an exact match. Does anyone know what it means 
and how to fix it?

smbclient -N -L prodwww

add more '\' - each '\' must be escaped by a '\', so you
need four of them.
