I have been trying to have a Samba-2.2.8a server join our NT domain with no luck. I already have another 2.2.8a server in the domain. This one (the production server) resides on a Sunfire V280R with solaris 8. The intention is replace it with a Sunfire V240 running Solaris 9. I would like to have the test server (Solaris 9) join a domain so I could test that all (printing etc) will work before I do the cut-over. I have read lots of literature but have been unable to successfully join. I have had the machine account recreated several times but to no avail. The following is the output from my attempt to join with debug level set to three. I am hoping that someone out there would spot something that would help me get past this hurdle. Thanks in advance. # smbpasswd -D 3 -j myDOMAIN -r my_PDC Initialising global parameters params.c:pm_process() - Processing configuration file "/usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf" Processing section "[globals]" added interface ip=aaa.bbb.ccc.213 bcast=aaa.bbb.ccc.255 nmask=255.255.255.0 resolve_lmhosts: Attempting lmhosts lookup for name my_PDC<0x20> resolve_hosts: Attempting host lookup for name my_PDC<0x20> Connecting to xxx.yyy.zzz.117 at port 445 error connecting to xxx.yyy.zzz.117:445 (Connection refused) Connecting to xxx.yyy.zzz.117 at port 139 resolve_lmhosts: Attempting lmhosts lookup for name my_PDC<0x20> resolve_hosts: Attempting host lookup for name my_PDC<0x20> Connecting to xxx.yyy.zzz.117 at port 445 error connecting to xxx.yyy.zzz.117:445 (Connection refused) Connecting to xxx.yyy.zzz.117 at port 139 lsa_io_sec_qos: length c does not match size 8 resolve_lmhosts: Attempting lmhosts lookup for name MY_PDC<0x20> resolve_hosts: Attempting host lookup for name MY_PDC<0x20> Connecting to xxx.yyy.zzz.117 at port 445 error connecting to xxx.yyy.zzz.117:445 (Connection refused) Connecting to xxx.yyy.zzz.117 at port 139 resolve_lmhosts: Attempting lmhosts lookup for name MY_PDC<0x20> resolve_hosts: Attempting host lookup for name MY_PDC<0x20> Connecting to xxx.yyy.zzz.117 at port 445 error connecting to xxx.yyy.zzz.117:445 (Connection refused) Connecting to xxx.yyy.zzz.117 at port 139 cli_net_req_chal: Error NT_STATUS_INVALID_COMPUTER_NAME cli_nt_setup_creds: request challenge failed modify_trust_password: unable to setup the PDC credentials to machine MY_PDC.
