[Samba] Strange update problem 3.0.5->3.0.6 with XP-Clients
Hello world, I have a very strange update problem: this night I upgraded from 3.0.5 to 3.0.6 (debian unstable) and the system broke completely with very strange errors (I did not change anything to smb.conf) - win98 users can log in, copy and everything - xp users can log in, they see the shares but they cannot access the files (read error in xp). I have tested it with Xp-Prof SP1 und SP2 (domain-login) and XP-Home (no domain login). Any hints what I should do? (I am no samba expert - until now it just worked) (bugreport to debian is submitted, 3.0.6-2 did not solve the problem) Thanks & Gruss Georg -- Georg Hoermann, Fachabteilung Wasserwirtschaft / Dep. Are you getting the dreaded "Access Denied" error? Go to a command prompt, change to a network drive letter, dir, etc... at what point do you get the error? What local permissions to the Windows box does the domain account grant? I was able to turn "Access Denied" on and off like a light switch with Samba 3.0.5 on Debian Testing by granting / removing local admin permissions from the account being tested. -- Michael Lueck Lueck Data Systems Remove the upper case letters NOSPAM to contact me directly.

As for you saying it makes no difference if you are admin or not (specifically local admin BROKE access here) how are you setting that in your environment? It does seem you do get further than I could, simply changing to the drive letter or DIR returned Access Denied here. So exactly where do you run into Access Denied? What about ECHO hi > test.txt at a command prompt for a network drive? TYPE test.txt ??? -- Michael Lueck Lueck Data Systems Remove the upper case letters NOSPAM to contact me directly.

TDBSAM version unknown: 2 [2004/08/24 16:20:34, 0] passdb/pdb_tdb.c:tdbsam_getsampwnam(417) ? pdb_getsampwnam: TDB passwd (/var/lib/samba/passdb.tdb) did not exist. Some minutes ago I discovered a still more strange behaviour: I could not read a single file, but writing was possible! GRuss Georg my other server (no PDC, just fileserver) works perfectly with the same configuration. -- Georg Hoermann, Fachabteilung Wasserwirtschaft / Dep. So don't try dodge this problem by dropping it on me ... drop it on debian folks :-) Simo. -- Simo Sorce - idra@samba.org Samba Team - samba.org Italian Site - samba.xsec.it
