1.) Edited my SMB.conf inside the /etc/samba directory - I changed the default workgroup name to match that of my Windows 2000 SP2 machine. I also edited the Public share to point to /home/markdog/apps directory with open permissions for viewing. 2.) Manually started the SMBD and NMBD daemons- these are the copied lines from a terminal prompt: [root@localhost /root]# smbd -D smbd -D [root@localhost /root]# nmbd -D 3.) Ran TestParm as Root with these results [root@localhost /root]# testparm Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf Processing section "[homes]" Processing section "[printers]" Processing section "[public]" Loaded services file OK. Press enter to see a dump of your service definitions=20 4.) Everything seems ok so far: Then I tried running SMBSTATUS with these results [root@localhost /root]# smbstatus Couldn't open status file /var/lock/samba/STATUS..LCK (I've read in some FAQ's that this doesn't necessarily suggest a problem, so....) 5.) I tried running SMBCLIENT with these results: [root@localhost /root]# smbclient SSL: Error error setting CA cert locations: error:00000000::lib(0) :func(0) :reason(0) trying default locations. added interface ip=3D192.168.244.151 bcast=3D192.168.244.255 nmask=3D255.255.255.128 Usage: smbclient service <password> [options] Version 2.0.7 I'm at a loss for how to resolve these two errors: "Couldn't open status file /var/lock/samba/STATUS..LCK" "SSL: Error error setting CA cert locations: error:00000000::lib(0) :func(0) :reason(0)" I verify that SMBD and NMBD are currently running, and try browsing the Workgroup "MARK-HOME" (my workgroup name on both machines), and I have yet to see my samba Linux share from the W2K machine. PLEASE anyone with suggestions to help with my problem- I would really appreciate it ! thanks mark PS> As a side note - WHEN i do get the share happening, I don't want to have to manually start the daemons each time. Most of the tutorials i've come across talk about editing the inetd.conf file to kick off the daemons automatically, but i don't HAVE that file in RH 7.0 - I'm assuming that identd.conf may be it's Redhat counterpart? ------=_NextPart_000_00BD_01C15192.2E021CD0 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META content=3D"text/html; charset=3Diso-8859-1" http-equiv=3DContent-Type> <META content=3D"MSHTML 5.00.3315.2870" name=3DGENERATOR> <STYLE></STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=3D#ffffff> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>Hello - </FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>I am about to drive myself up the wall I think : )=20 Any help would be greatly appreciated.
