Hi everyone, I'm having a problem with wirte permissions in my shares. Some shares of mine are to be accessed only by certain users so I put them in the valid users = and write list = and also these shares are read only no and write able = yes, but even though THE VALID USERS CAN NOT WRITE to the share. Why ?? The only way I can make them have permission to write is putting them as admin users = . Also, can I set samba to be a Domain Controller ? (like NT) Thanks everyone, Roberto Mello Univ. of Amazonas - Brazil Linux Registered User #96240
Hi. I just downloaded and installed SAMBA. I have the following settings for SAMBA: username joe, mike valid users joe, mike write list joe, mike read only no If I leave the list like this, neither joe or mike can write to the directory. If I had this entry: admin list joe, mike Then joe and mike can write to the directory. Isn't this wrong? Or am I missing a setting somewhere? Thanks. Grant

If I had this entry:samba does not override unix permissions unless you make someone an admin. Have joe and mike permissions to that share if they log-on to the unix box? -- giulioo@pobox.com

Any ideas on what could be wrong? | | Thanks | Vernon | | There could be two reasons: 1) samba share definition. 2) unix access rights. If you can to the Linux box without problems, and ls -ald . gives you something which begins with drwx the second is OK. For the first one edit your samba configuration file, typicaly /etc/samba/smb.conf, or alike, and check the [homes] section. I would suggest one reading: [homes] ~ comment = Home Directories ~ browseable = no ~ writable = yes later you can fine tune things, but it will be enough for a starting point. Then reload your samba daemons by: service smb restart, and it should work. Good Luck!
