Hi, I want to setup Samba as a new PDC. I followed the instructions on IBM's site (http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/esdd/tutorials/samba/index.html) The problem I currently have is that Windows 9X boxes can't connect to the Mandrake 9.1 Bamboo box. However, I can make connections on localhost to localhost using smbclient //localhost/share -U username I've tried a couple of different lines in the smb.conf such as hosts allow = 192.168.10. and hosts allow = 127.0.0.1 192.168.10.0/255.255.255.0 and hosts allow = 192.168.10.92 (actual PC) But nothing seems to work. Any ideas ? Regards, Phil Greenway Systems Administrator ********************************************************** DISCLAIMER: The information contained in this Email message maybe confidential. Hi hosts allow is not gen of your problem. This not need on clasic config samba only for security. Your problem is firewall settings on Bamboox kernel or encrypt password setings between samba and W9x. If you see Bamboo on W9x neighb... but not can connect to it your problem is passwords. If not see Bamboo or not find with W9x find computer Bamboo Netbios name then problem is firewall. I don't think it's a firewall issue as there is no firewall software on this mandrake 9.1 running. I can also ping from the bamboo box to the workstation and vice versa. [Samba] Samba - Problem Connecting PCs
Did you try to start the samba daemons with loglevel, say 10, and see what the logs say? ------------------------ Phil Greenway <admin@wenck.com.au> wrote: ------------------------ Hrmmm ...> >I guess no one can help. > >I'll just go back to using NT4 then ... > > >-----Original Message----- >From: Phil Greenway [mailto:admin@wenck.com.au] >Sent: Tuesday, 20 May 2003 11:59 AM >To: 'samba@lists.samba.org' >Subject: RE: [Samba] Samba - Problem Connecting PCs > > >Further to my problem ... > >here is a screenshot of it working on the local box only ... > >http://gravity24hr.com/anon/samba.png > > > >-----Original Message----- >From: Phil Greenway [mailto:admin@wenck.com.au] >Sent: Tuesday, 20 May 2003 10:01 AM >To: 'samba@lists.samba.org' >Subject: RE: [Samba] Samba - Problem Connecting PCs > > >I don't think it's a firewall issue as there is no firewall software on this >mandrake 9.1 running. > >I can also ping from the bamboo box to the workstation and vice versa. > >Any other ideas ? > > > >-----Original Message----- >From: Marian Mlcoch, Ing [mailto:mm@tsmp.sk] >Sent: Monday, 19 May 2003 9:43 PM >To: Phil Greenway; samba@lists.samba.org >Subject: Re: [Samba] Samba - Problem Connecting PCs > > >Hi >hosts allow is not gen of your problem.
